Hello everyone! I am in desperate need of your help.
My laptop has a lot of mileage on it as my GF and myself take it with us quite often (school, traveling, etc.) so I know there's some normal travel wear with it, but it still works like a champ and I always treat it like my baby. So about 3 weeks ago I think I shut it slightly harder than normal. When I woke up the next morning and turned it on the fan was SUPER loud. I immediately knew something was wrong with the fan and tried many different things such as dissecting my laptop to take out the fan and clean it as well as the whole inside. Nothing seemed to help so I came to the conclusion that the bearing went out in the fan or something along those lines.
I ended up ordering what I thought was the right fan and it turned out to be the same but it was too tall! The actual fan inside the laptop is labeled DC12V 0.40A while the one I ordered is DC12V 0.60A. I didn't see this listed on the site I ordered it from and I'm fairly new to ordering/replacing any kind of computer parts so I didn't know that might be a problem. I've since scoured the internet trying to find this specific fan with zero luck so far. I don't want to take it in to a laptop repair shop and end up waiting a month and paying them like $150 to do what I can do myself if I had the replacement fan. I've already had it for over a year now so the warranty is out otherwise I wouldn't be here.
So my question at this point is, what can I do? Has anyone in a similar situation found the fan? Or do I need to send it back to Asus and just wait it out as well as pay the extra to ship it and all that BS if that's even an option?
Here is the link to the fan I ordered that was too tall.
