I bought 2x4gb ddr3l 1.35v low profile kingston ram and only today has it prevented my laptop from powering up. My laptop is the g750jm and the ram has been working fine when I got it on the 29th of Jan but it suddenly shutdown today. Have I just wasted $100 on ram or is there something wrong with my laptop?

Skullzero7, G750's aren't as understanding mixing make/model of memory, but if it was running, it should stay running... did you change anything internally - disks? - that may have disturbed the seating of the memory?
How do you know it was caused by the memory? Did you remove it and it boots fine without it? You could try swapping in 1 SODIMM at a time, make sure it is seated well, and run on 1 at a time to see if 1 of the SODIMM's failed - unlikely that both failed.
You could use CPU-Z to see what memory came with your laptop, and order more of it... this time getting the 8GB version of that make/model family if you received 4GB SODIMM's. At least that would be an upgrade.
You should be covered under warranty if the SODIMM(s) failed. Try contacting the vendor when you are sure of the fault.
Please come back and let us know how it works out 🙂

When it first happened, I took both memory sticks out and it worked, but now it seems completely random when my laptop will refuse to turn on. I've left them out since it's happened but my laptop will not turn on occasionally but the lights for power, wifi, and the numlock light will go on but nothing else. I've tried putting only 1 in at a time in each slot and that didn't work. Once the memory is put in and removed, after a few tries my laptop will eventually turn on. Is this a hardware problem cause by the memory? Will I be able to have it repaired for free if something is defective, i've only had it for around 7 months and my warranty is 2 years but I'm in a different country from where I purchased it. Thanks.

Skullzero7, which model number kingston ram did you install? When you have it installed, and you look at that slot with CPU-Z SPD tab, what Voltage does it say?
There are some memory that say "tested at 1.35v", but actually have 1.5v programmed in to the SPD - which the laptop uses to set the memory voltage... which means it runs at 1.5v in the G750...so check what that memory SPD has for the voltage value with CPU-Z SPD.
If your laptop is unstable without the memory, then you have a couple of choices. Do a software reset from F9 to your existing disk, losing all your installs/data. Or get another 2.5" drive to use for a restore from Asus Backtracker flash recovery for testing.
First, make an Asus Backtracker USB 3.0 16GB flash recovery drive, and get a 2.5" test drive - upgrade to an SSD or get an inexpensive HDD for testing.
If you are still unstable, you will need to RMA the laptop to Asus for repair. Document the problem with the random crashes, that you tried to reset the OS and still have the random crashes.
https://vip.asus.com <== create a login, register your laptop, file a Technical Inquiry with the details of the random crashes and what you did to try to fix it. Leave out the memory discussion, as crashes happen without the additional memory installed.
Please let us know how it worked out 🙂

I've put the memory sticks back in and my laptop seems to boot up again. I haven't had many problems since it has crashed but I haven't been turning it off much, mostly putting it to sleep cause I'm worried it might not start up again and the problem might return. I've attached the cpu-z data for both sticks of ram.
