G750 Upgraders: 1.35V memory is required!

X-ROG
Level 15
Please note we fit 1.35V memory into our G750s. New Haswell CPUs require this and using 1.5V memory can cause problems along the lines of:

> Overheating
> Damage to the CPU IMC (due to the increased potential difference)
> Greater battery use than our stated values.

Also remember for every DIMM you add you increase the power consumption by 1-3W each, depending on what you buy.

Once I get ahold of a G750 to borrow for a few days I'll do an upgrade guide.

Hello Scott,
Yes thats right, i have 2x4 gb orignal, and i have from e bay now 2x4 gb additional. And only first day it crached after 20 minutes, and i toke them out and i didnt use computer for a while didnt have time, so yesterday and today i have used a bit and no crashing or shuting down yet. Only first day. I am not sure if reebot system slower, maybe i imagine that after crashing...
Unfortinately i dont have time to return this memory, cause in 2 days i am leaving Sweden and i will be on vocation for 1 mounth. So if this memory start again to make problems i will put them out from computer and after i come back home i will search to buy new ones. And this is first and LAST time that i bought second hand eletronic parts.
I try to run 3 games and 2 work without issue, but Batman Arkham its a bit in slow motion, but i think that people on intenet compained about that game that is run somethimes in slow motion...
So far it crashed only ones and not after and this lap top never crashed before i put these memories..

bravorauch, well it could have been coincidence that you crashed near to the time you changed the memory - it is Windows after all.

I bought used memory for my G750JH, to add a 4th 8GB SODIMM, and it works fine. As long as the vendor tests the memory - pulled memory actually has a higher success rate than new memory - as it has already burned in and gotten past the infant mortality failure point of new memory - and it doesn't wear out if run at rated specs and handled carefully. Used memory is usually a safe bet.

The human mind has an amazing capacity to notice differences, but not always so reliable on attributing cause and effect - you have to train yourself not to jump to conclusions before taking in all the variables - lets hope it is hyper sensitivity / awareness due to the crash - maybe when you come back from your trip.

Have a nice vacation 🙂

...very useful thread and great forum, just bought G750JW, did SSD upgrade (840 EVO) and ordered this two RAM modules, hopefully these will be fine http://www.amazon.com/Hynix-HMT451S6AFR8A-PB-PC3-12800-DDR3-1600MHz-Unbuffered/dp/B00FKEZ218/ref=sr_...

Dario723, those look good - I assume you got the part number from what you already have installed in your G750JW? If you have 2 x 4GB of those already, that makes a very useful 16GB.

Let us know how they work out for you 🙂

...your assumption is right:-), just corrected color based on icn profiles posted here, also increased refresh rate to 85Hz on my Chi Mei now my G750JW is in mint condition.., unfortunately had to downgrade Nvidia drivers (311.93) to solve auto dim when on battery... love this forum

Dario723, did you try 100hz on the Chi Mei? Works for most everyone I have heard try it, including me... 105hz doesn't work, but 100hz does 🙂

The auto contrast problem is annoying, and it is currently unknown why most don't have it, but some do. I don't have the problem on the JH, nor on the JX/JW.

I have done many Asus Backtracker restores, and reinstalled lots of stuff every time and never seen the auto contrast issue.

You might try making an Asus Backtracker flash recovery drive, if you haven't already, and do a complete recovery restore. And then watch carefully as you install / configure to find the exact install/change that causes it. Assuming it is a software problem, and not a slight difference in hardware.

Enjoy 🙂

Hello guys ..

I have a G750JZ - T4155D .. and I would like to upgrade my entire memory to Corsair Vengeance ( even the 16Gb already included ). The modules I would like to use are CMSX16GX3M2B1600C9 .. they say Tested 1.35v .. so my question is .. will it work? Can I buy them?

DISroqTeD, smart to ask before ordering 🙂

No, they say "tested" because their SPD burned in to the SODIMM sets the voltage to 1.5v - and you have to have a BIOS option to force it to run at 1.35v, which the G750's don't - they only read the SPD and run that voltage - 1.5v.

The G.Skill memory is about the same cost as getting the normal speed memory at 1.35v, and runs at 1.35v from SPD - and they have been tested as working by a couple of people that have posted, so I would go with a matched set of G.Skill.

newegg has a 4 pack for full replacement - which is a matched set tested as a set, so that is the one to get if you intend to replace all 4.

G.SKILL Ripjaws 32GB (4 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 2133 Laptop Memory Model F3-2133C11Q-32GRSL
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231776

If you need to do it in 2 stages, there are 2 packs too 🙂
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 2133 Laptop Memory Model F3-2133C11D-16GRSL
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231760

The 4 pack costs $20 more than 2 2 packs, likely because the 4 pack is tested as a set in addition to as a pair.

Note that you likely need to remove all the existing memory before putting in any G.Skill 2133mhz memory.

Please come back and let us know how it works out 🙂

Thank you for the fast reply Scott.

The thing is that I live in Romania and I have 2 options that now are like 50% down with the price due to extended Black Friday and stuff .. the other option that they have right now at a lower than normal price besides the Corsair is Kingston HX316LS9IBK2/16 or HX318LS10IBK2/16. The price is around 100 Euros / KIT. Buying cheaper memory would leave room in my wallet for 2 Kingston 3K 480Gb SSD`s as well.

DISroqTeD, if you are going to replace all 4 SODIMM's then as long as the SPD is 1.35v you should be ok. Just make sure you can return it if it doesn't work, or there is a problem with 1 of the SODIMM's - note the return policy and return time - sometimes it is as low as 7 days, hopefully it is 15-30 days.

The SSD's sound good too.

Good luck, and let us know how it works out 🙂
