G750 Upgraders: 1.35V memory is required!

X-ROG
Level 15
Please note we fit 1.35V memory into our G750s. New Haswell CPUs require this and using 1.5V memory can cause problems along the lines of:

> Overheating
> Damage to the CPU IMC (due to the increased potential difference)
> Greater battery use than our stated values.

Also remember for every DIMM you add you increase the power consumption by 1-3W each, depending on what you buy.

Once I get ahold of a G750 to borrow for a few days I'll do an upgrade guide.

Thanks guys for putting so much energy, its seems so complicate 😄 lol.
But i wont give up. Temperature was only that moment so high ( maybe some bug in program), i was waching 20 more times even with more open programs and it goes up to 80 degreese so i think its notnigh special...

But memory makes me problem, so slot 1 and 3 it show emptry, but 2 and 4 show exatcly what you ask for.
Here is a photos. For me its would be great to have as much as possible more memory but i would be satisfacted with 16 in total also ( 24 even better ).
Like i said i am not expert so i am asking from you to help me with chosing a right memory, you write me what is compatabil with original memory and then next step is to find saler in Sweden or worldwide.
King Regards

Alex, never too late to learn 🙂

Start here with these videos on how to use Windows 8.x snipping tool, that way you don't have to share your whole personal desktop to share a small dialog.

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+use+snipping+tool+in+windows+8

Alex, it is actually very simple - but this one is a bit complex 🙂

By finding the complimentary 8GB model to your Samsung M471B5173BH0-YK0 4GB memory, you are avoiding testing compatibility with unknown memory that has the "same" specs - they are never the same, even between some manufacturer model families with the same specs you can get incompatibilities.

You aren't saving $ when you buy cheap parts... you are paying more through uncertainty. You can get the right part at close to the lowest price by frugal shopping, and patience.

The method is to do a google search on Samsung M471B5173BH0-YK0, what you have installed, and add 8GB - what you want - to the search:

...skipping lots of stuff...

It turns out that it was tough to find this one, as the -YK0 option is so new, and the base number is so old - and shared between DIMM/SODIMM/etc parts, that it was hard to dig out what we are looking for, but I found it 🙂

Here is the PDF for M471B5173BH0-YK0 M471B1G73BH0-YK0 1.35v 4GB/8GB
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/file/product/ds_ddr3_4gb_b-die_based_1_35v_sodi...

Now we do a google search to find somewhere to purchase the M471B1G73BH0-YK0 8GB part:

https://www.google.com/search?num=50&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=6nl&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aoffi...

Prices range from $80-125 for new parts, so shop well 🙂

You can get refurb memory cheaper, and I have had good luck doing that personally, as it is burned in and tested multiple times - I have received bad new and refurb parts, so either way you will need to test what you get 🙂

Yep its never late to learn some new staffs. You know couple of years ago i was well informed and with good knolege about IT and Computers, but then life kick me on completly different staffs so i lost step with developing, thats why i am like a stranger :D.
I will study this windows snipp for sure, thanks for tips.
HUGE THANK YOU for all. I found there on amazon and on ebay same memory, but again i have questions.. There is for sale same specification same memory model as mine, but its 1x8 gb and i have 2x4gb. Isnt it better to but 2x4gb so they ll be in pair, and so far i know they are dual chanell so my instikt tell me that it should be additional 2x4gb as originaly ones.
Second question is when i get parts from ebay or amazon, in this case memory, and it turn that memory is burned like you say, how i can notise that ? It mean that is out of function 100% or i need to do some more sophisticated tests ? And in that case do i get new one buy sending back that one which is damaged ?
Best Regards
Alex

I just toke a photo of my memory, i could see only one underneath laptop.
I guesse i suppose to search on amazon or e bay exactly in letter same memory ?

Alex, you have 2 x 4GB, with 2 slots free. The 4 slots will accept 4 x 8GB for a total of 32GB. If you want to get the most out of the 2 slots remaining, you should get 8GB SODIMM's, and not 4GB SODIMM's.

Adding 1 x 8GB at a time will be ok. That way you can spread the cost out over 2 purchases.

If you get 2 x 4GB and fill up the slots, you would need to remove the 4GB SODIMM's later to replace with 8GB SODIMM's to add more memory, so it makes sense to do it with 8GB SODIMM's to start. 🙂

Either way works, and if you only want 16GB of memory, instead of 12GB (adding 1 x 8GB) and then (adding 2 x 8GB) 24GB, you could only put in 2 x 4GB more and stay at 16GB 🙂

M471B5173BH0-YK0 4GB
M471B1G73BH0-YK0 8GB

Let us know what you end up installing, and how it works out 🙂

bravorauch, if you want to go through all the trouble to pull apart the screen/top to get at the 2 SODIMM sockets under the keyboard, you might as well go for the best you can find.

2133mhz memory has been posted as working, and it makes a measurable difference in benchmarks - I doubt you will notice in interactive apps, but for processing lots of batch jobs that would benefit could reward you by shorter runtime's.

G750 Haswell Boards Support 2133MHz SODIMM's
http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?47957-G750-Haswell-Boards-Support-2133MHz-SODIMM-s&p=406625...

And, earlier 1866mhz memory:
http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?33744-Upgraders-1.35V-memory-is-required!&p=316319&viewfull...

Make sure you get SPD 1.35v or 1.28v memory.

Be careful, Corsair has been labeling SPD 1.5 memory as DDR3L "tested at 1.35v", and the G750 runs it at 1.5v - if the BIOS let us force memory values we could use it, but the G750 goes by the SPD value.

bravorauch, sounds good 🙂

Did you order new or refurbished memory? 16GB will likely be plenty, you can disable the pagefile, hibernation, and gain back 32GB of C: partition space 🙂

Hello Scott,

I couldent find new ones ( upgrade kit 2x4gb ) they was selling only one 4gb, so would be forced to order on two different places and that would cost me time. But now it ll cost me even more i belive :/.
Memories are in my lap top now, so lap top see 16 gb, but first day when i instal them lap top shuted down without reason after 20 minutes of usage, when i try to turn on again nothing happend i tryed several times nothing happend, then i plug them out and computer start same second. Then i left like that ( i didnt have time to test more ). Now, right now before i start computer i instal them again and start lap top and i am using now around 20 minutes and it still running normaly.
Any idea what is the problem ? Maybe some test to do to dicover problem ? Or some settings ?

And can you explain me a bit better or more amater way lol your previous post about 32 gb more space on C partition ?

Thanks a lot

Regards Alex

I forgot one more think, i feel that when i star up computer it need much more time to start windows wit these two additional memories its kind a wird.

bravorauch, so if I follow your description. You have refurbished memory, 16GB total, and the first time it was installed you crashed after 20 minutes. And, you re-seated the memory and it stays running, but you think it isn't working well - takes too long to reboot/start up?

If the memory was working correctly it wouldn't be running slower, and it wouldn't have crashed after 20 minutes, so you should return the memory, and request another set.

You could test running on 1 of the refurbished 4GB SODIMM's at a time to see if one of them are stable, then you would return 1 of them and wait for a replacement for it. It is up to you, and how much time you have left in the return window allowed by the seller.

Lets wait on the partition description until after you get memory that is working well for you.

Look again for new memory, the vendors get new stock to sell all the time, so keep looking 🙂

Hello Scott,

Yes thats right, i have 2x4 gb orignal, and i have from e bay now 2x4 gb additional. And only first day it crached after 20 minutes, and i toke them out and i didnt use computer for a while didnt have time, so yesterday and today i have used a bit and no crashing or shuting down yet. Only first day. I am not sure if reebot system slower, maybe i imagine that after crashing...
Unfortinately i dont have time to return this memory, cause in 2 days i am leaving Sweden and i will be on vocation for 1 mounth. So if this memory start again to make problems i will put them out from computer and after i come back home i will search to buy new ones. And this is first and LAST time that i bought second hand eletronic parts.
I try to run 3 games and 2 work without issue, but Batman Arkham its a bit in slow motion, but i think that people on intenet compained about that game that is run somethimes in slow motion...
So far it crashed only ones and not after and this lap top never crashed before i put these memories..
