G75 - audio system bugreport

bheam
Level 7
Hi,

There are 2 basic problems with the audio system, described as following:

1) When having external speakers/headset connected, and rebooting and/or resetting audio, the subwoofer plays audio still!
2) The main volume control doesn't affect subwoofer volume, until it's at 0! (It should always stay relative to other speakers value when in 2.1 mode)
2a) The main volume control DOES affect subwoofer volume in the case of #1.

So with this very specific bug report, when can we expect a fix?

Fix #1: Always disable subwoofer when external device connected
Fix #2: Make Subwoofer volume ALWAYS relative to treble speakers when in 2.1 mode (So lowering windows/master volume lowers all sound)

Best regards,

Michael

Interesting info above.

Would using a external (USB?) soundcard be one way of circumventing this? Then via windows you can select all audio to go through there instead of the default speakers.

Likewise simply using a USB driven headset, but as per usual sound quality would probably be better getting a normal headset(.5mm connector IIRC?) and getting a good external sound card?

That might actually be what I end up doing because sending it in for a repair for such a small problem is kind of a waste. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a driver fix from VIA/Asus though. Hopefully they can figure out what's going on and fix it!

I have the same problem as yours but it's on my G55vw ds71 😞 i really need a fix for it , can anyone help?

Anyone found a fix? It sucks having a transporatable gaming rig that cant be used public...

For what it is worth...The same problems exist using the Windows 8 -64 bit drivers. I am running Windows 8 Enterprise and the drivers listed on the Via website for Windows 8. Audio playing through speakers with headphone jack connected, Blackboard Collaborate audio not working
unless you change from 2.1 to 2.0 speakers.

I bought this computer for my online classes, (or so I tell my wife), so the audio should work! I'm not expecting Bose like sound, but
I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DISABLE HARDWARE TO GET SOUND TO WORK!!!!!

This problem was reported in the 5th month of 2012 and I just purchased mine a week ago and it's giving me the same problem. Where is the fix and why is it still appearing with new computers?

So why did you buy one Jfrench? It was clear from here that there was still no fix.
I too have been waiting that long - am now waiting (not much longer) to see if a new improved model comes out otherwise I'll buy differently.
A two month wait should have been plenty - sorry fans but you've been too patient and understanding, forgiving by far in my opinion.

Because I wasn't aware of it till I had brought it, I didn't say I was aware of it before I brought it.

I've been following this topic long enough without reporting my case.
I've experimented the bad audio balancing issue myself (not to mention audio keys and Win audio slider not affecting bass filter) and I've tried each and every solution you guys provided till now. Nothing worked. The tech guys from the store couldn't do any better, so I compiled an RMA and delivered my laptop to Asus itself (italian division), including every information I was able to gather to make their job easier. They returned the g75 after a week or so, Windows 7 being re-installed, 10600 driver loaded and that's about it: same problem as before. In fact they DENIED any tech flaw.
Really bad service. I have a long mail history of half-replies that demonstrates they don't even read carefully.

The fact that no official apology or solution has been provided to this day just amazes me.
What's at stake here is not a mere laptop audio system (some could say it's not the deal breaker anyway), but the credibility of a company that aims to compete on pro-gaming hardware with strong competitors. What if my issue was about motherboard manifacturing or so? Denying errors can pay off with the general public, who tends to forget easily, but this is a product for the DEMANDING public and there are fewer of us. Quite different.

At this point I'm honestly out of options. I'm tempted to report my experience on many reviews and social media, backing up my complaints with precise data. I'd love to avoid headaches and money losses to other people. That way I'd feel my efforts were not in vain.

Well, with the Via drivers up to 10900 for the Windows 7 version and they have not fixed the problem yet, looks to me like a hardware problem and and there are just throwing drivers at the problem in hopes we will settle for one that partially works. I bought my G75 for online classes and some of the software cannot drive the speakers, unless I manually change it from 2-speaker/1-subwoofer mode to just 2-speaker mode. At this point I would settle for Asus paying for my USB headset and call it a bad buying decision.

I feel like a blonde, I chose the G75 over the MSI model because it looked better, even though specs were better on the the MSI.

I just got my G75VW, and first of i had problems with my USB ports and now this crap, efter a while i get sound from both headset and speakers, i cant belive ASUS dosent do anything to fix this.
It must be a hardwere thing, have you guys noticed that the Forum Modorator Marshal answered questions the first 2-3 pages of this post then efter that he suddenly stopped, he hasent commented on this problem for months now, no updates nothing, i think that says it all....
