G74SX-ST1 Blu-ray drive issues

Hello all, been lurking on these boards since before I bought my G74SX-ST1 a month ago, but this is my first official post... 🙂

What I wanted to know is if any others have experienced the same issues I've been seeing with my DS4E1S Blueray combo drive, which are:

1) I've recently noticed that the drive won't recognize any media at all, that is until I pop in a blueray movie. Which brings me to...

2) When I put a blueray movie in the drive and attempt to play via CinePlayer that came OEM, I get sound but only a black screen.

The only major changes I can think of are my updating the Nvidia drivers to 285.62, ATK Package to 1.0.0.00014, and the BIOS to 203. Other than that, DirectX and everything else that I can possibly update are at the latest update/BIOS revision/etc. I've read a couple of related posts on here, but nothing helpful came out of those. (at least for me)

Any ideas?

I noticed when updating the Video Drivers this can cause the CINE player to crap out with a black screen and no sound. I keep a local copy of the CINEPlayer MSI installer file in MyDocs and whenever updating video drivers I just use the "Repair" option to get the Cineplayer working again. Twice now ran repair through the [programs control panel] and works like a charm.

In troubleshooting this, I didn't try a repair but instead just uninstalled and re-installed Cineplayer, which didn't fix the issue. I had a nagging suspicion though that the Nvidia drivers were to blame...

What did you spend, $77? I'm thinking of getting it because I'm sure cineplayer won't be updated very often.

Yes, I bought the $78 edition because I wanted the 'mobile' features.

I just want to jump in and say that I'm going through the same problem minus the media recognition. At the moment I can only get blurays to play if I goto Uninstall/change programs and perform a cineplayer repair, load a dvd, remove dvd and insert bluray without shutting down program. After that it will go back to black screen and sound. My belief is a conflict in the bluray's copyprotection. Punishment for my having a slysoft anydvd product installed on my g74sx. Any thoughts? This is driving my batty. Also tried uninstalling ccmp codecs and reinstalling, messed around with hardware acceleration and 3d settings. I'm losing my mind.

Do a clean install of Win7 Home Premium? Then don't install slysoft. 😛

The OEM Roxio CinePlayer appears pretty flakey. If you uninstall it and install the more robust PowerDVD 11 Ultra (I think you can try it as a trial), does it resolve your Blu-Ray issues?

Installing PowerDVD resolved all of my blu-ray issues. I still need to verify if an issue exists with reading non-bluray media though.
