G74Sx-RH71 Fans and airflow

Hi all,

I looked around and if there is one, I missed it, but I am looking for a detailed diagram or description of the airflow on the GS74Sx. I found one place online that said the air drew in from the bottom and blew out the back but my guess, that was a cut and paste since there is no vents.

The reason I ask is my house is a bit dusty and I want to be able to keep my fans clean or at least the intake clean. I replaced a Gateway FX laptop that I had to clean out every 4-6 weeks. That laptop worked for 3 years and I would like to see that kind of life out o my new one.

Any help would be great.

The G74SX draws air from 2 openings directly under the base of the display (you'll notice there is a gap between the base of the display and the laptop deck when the lid is open). Shine a light under there and you'll see 'em.

The air blows out the back, mostly from the right side. The left 2/3's of the left side 'exhaust vent' are striated plastic to look like a radiator. But that's okay, there is enough radiator to make it one of, if not the coolest gaming laptops on the market.

http://btoforums.com/showthread.php?t=3525 shows the 2 air intakes (2 inside darker grilles) at Step 5. "Pry up the top case". You can see the radiator (and how it is offset to the right side) in Step 7. "Remove 1 Screw on the WLAN&BT Module".

HI.

I would like to know your impressions about the RH71that you have, any issue with the trackpad or something? Have you played BF3?

BF3 runs out of the box at high - ultra settings. I could probably tweak them up some more but I figure DICE knows what will run better than I do and...I am lazy. 😄

The trackpad is a pain, I tried turning it off but it wont stay off so I disabled it in Device Manager. I have never used them on any laptop I have ever owned.

Overall I am very happy with it and the price point on this model vs. what I could have gotten with other models. IMO it is well worth it. Asus builds a solid machine.
