Thanks adamsyes and codename47 for finding and sharing calibration ICMs.
I installed the calibration file and then installed the linked version of Splendid (although I noticed it was marked for another model notebook) but couldn't get a decent color setting out of it with presets or custom adjustments.
I finally decided to uninstall Splendid and work with the Desktop Color settings directly in NVidia Control Panel and after a while I managed to get a decent-looking desktop color setting.
I was still curious though, so I extracted and took a close look at some other versions of the ASUS Splendid installer marked for different notebooks and the ones for the G74.
All the versions (old and new) for the G74SX contain the same files under the Data\ColorTable folder:
19D40020.acf
19D40020.icm
94B40054.acf
94B40054.icm
22040017.acf
22040017.icm
FC540002.acf
FC540002.icm
FD140002.acf
FD140002.icm
The same versions of the utility marked for other notebooks contain different files, and often a whole lot more of them.
So, I'm guessing that the "ColorTable" files provide the specs, color response data, etc. of all the various different LCD panels used in a particular notebook so the Splendid utility can generate proper-looking presets and make the manual settings (especially color temperature) accurate.
I don't think there is any danger in using non-G74SX versions except that the presets might end up looking really weird as they did in my case and the RGB and Color Temp controls might be calibrated for a totally different LCD panel making it very tough to work out a decent color setting with Splendid.
I hope somebody who knows more about Splendid or those file types can verify if this is the case or not. As I said, I'm just guessing...
However, IF that's the case, it may be possible to download the latest Splendid utility installer (no matter which notebook it's intended for) and simply replace the ColorTable files with the G74-specific ones listed above.
If I ever go back to using Splendid, I'll give it a try, but I thought I'd put this out there in case anybody else wants to try it.
