G74SX Loud Noises

hey guys i just got an Asus G74SX and i noticed while playing COD MW3 there was this loud humming noise coming from my laptop i think it was the fans, because once i exited the game the noise decreased quite a bit, the only other thing that could be causing the noise is the harddrive its a 640GB 5200 rpm HDD

basically what i wanted to know is if this is normal or if my laptop is defective, the noise sounds like something whirring so im pretty sure its the fans but it doesn't sound like something is broken. if yall want me to upload a video/mp3 of the sound i'll be more than happy to.

Hi fallensoulja.

To be honest it's quite hard to make a conclusion about your issue just reading your description because the g74sx actually makes "noise (blowing a lot of air)" when is at full load. Please upload a video to know how is your noise and I will be able to tell you if mine does the same noise. Maybe yours is like this?

oh no its nothing like that i will record the sound next time im playing COD MW3, or hear the noise again

Noise of intensive air exhaust its normal thing when hardware under load
Maybe you have to hear MSI GT780R after that you will understand a real mean of "loud humming noise" term ))

You should place the microphone at head level and speak in a normal volume voice in your video to help listeners judge the volume of the noise you want to exhibit. The noise (sounds like fan noise) didn't sound excessive to me.

The G74SX has a good cooling system. It is relatively quiet, but it won't be silent like dinky i3 systems that have little need for fan power.

As of about 30 or so minutes ago, I noticed a constant and very annoying low/deep toned humming coming from the g74, putting my ear upto the keyboard and the humming appears to be coming from behind the centre of the keyboard, I can here the fans spinning and wonder if it is them making this annoying humming sound?

Its seem to have appeared straight after using the Blueray player in the g74.

It sounds like the noise is coming from the CPU fan (located in that area) on your G74SX. An outside possibility could be a disc spinning up in the Blu-Ray drive. They can be a noise culprit on these laptops.

1) Do you hear the noise with the Blu-Ray drive empty? Does it stop when you open the tray?

2) Are you monitoring CPU temperatures? What are they when you hear the humming sound?

1) YES, No.
I have just found away to stop it, but unfortunately I would have to squeeze/clamp the front and rear of the leftside lower corner together forever 😞 Just below the nvidia and windows 7 sticker.

Weird how it only started after first use of the BR player, Have removed br disc from player.

Just dl core temp 1.0 rc3 and it showing 2893.60mhz,2840qm??? and 32mn, temps min+max of 33-43 temps but cpuz-x64 shows

Yet, cpuz-x64 shows around 798.30mhz(core #0), 2630qm (as per spec) 32mn, but showing gpu perf levels of,
Clock,
Default and Current = core 50mhz,shaders 101mhz, memory 135mhz
2d = core 202mhz,shaders 405mhz, memory 324mhz.
3d = core 775mhz,shaders 1550mhz, memory 1250mhz

Memory size showing as -1024mhz.

Well,
Removed battery, not that, sound is definately coming from were the BR player is, so ejected it but low humming tone still there??

Is there anyway to switch off the power to he player?
