G74sx Hard drive upgrade

I'm looking to upgrade my hard drive to a solid state. Still have my stock hard drives in my G74sx. Has anybody tried this with the G74? Wondering if I would need a conversion kit or can it just go straight in?

Yes, many of us here in this forum have an SSD as the primary OS disk.
What SSD brand do you want to have?
Installing an SSD (size 2.5) is similar with a notebook HDD.
ASUS G74SX-3DE

It can go straight in, provided it is a 2.5" form factor--most are. Just buy a cheap <$10 enclosure for the hard drive you take out, and you have a backup drive right there! I have heard that Intel makes some of the best SSD's in terms of reliability, and that Corsair makes some of the fastest. Someone with SSD experience, drop a few pointers.
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

Looking at a Kingston 120 GB SSD. It says it's transfer rate is 600 MBps, which from what I see is one of the fastest. Don't see a reason to get a massive Hard Drive since I have a 500GB that came stock. I also have a 4TB external.

Yes, Kingston is one of the more reliable and popular brands in our part of the world (East Asia).
I'd also initially wanted to have a Kingston for an SSD last year, but it was more expensive than
a Crucial SSD. So I opted for the Crucial M4 128 GB instead, and I'm glad it wasn't a bad choice.

And also agree that a 120 GB SSD capacity is more than enough as an OS drive.
But for the gamers who want to install games on the SSD, a 256 GB or more should do it.

Just use your thread if you need some tips when you're ready with your SSD.

If you go with a sandforce driven ssd makesure you update its firmware first thing. If not there will probably be problems. I have 2 60gb's one in my desktop and one in my g73sw, then i have a 120gb In my g75.
All of my drives are patriot pyro so im a bit biased seeing as just about all of my ram and ssd's are from patriot.

I have read people have problems with the "force gt's"

Ok, I am defiantly upgrading my hard drive. Unfortunately having an APO address I have to wait a lot longer for my hard drive. Got the Kingston 120 GB. Hopefully I can get my package within 2 weeks. Will update again when I get my hard drive. Also it's good to know that there is a place like this for Asus owners like me. Feels good to be part of a community of people that look out for each other and seems like almost any problem can be solved through a post here.

Ok I know it has been a while since I said I was going to update. Anyways I did the Hard Drive swap and it is defiantly worth it. Before posting a reply here I decided to do a little digging and find out some of the most useful drivers to install. I found this thread here by JRdlst which was a big help. Everything seems successful so far and running great.
