G74SX-DH72 - Trottling

I saw the main thread for G73/G5-somethin thread for throttling, but I wasn't sure if it applied to the G74SX as well. I mean, I know I probably have to use ThrottleStop, but problem is, the G74SX charger is 150W, and 180W is recommended.

I also remember briefly that Chastity indicated s/he uses a 180W universal charger, but I don't know what model they use. G53? G73? G74? If not the G74, is it still compatible with the G74?

Thanks in advance.

PS: I just realized I misspelled Throttling. Sorry!

Hi

The throttling issue is on all Asus notebooks (G-series) with Sandy brigde processor.
Attention G73-53Sw Owners CPU Throttling to 798mhz and how to fix it
Sandy Bridge Throttle issue and Workaround

About the universal charger I think it will work just fine on the G74SX as it's works on the G73SW (I mean that I've also read somewhere Chastity used that notebook with 180W charger.... I can be very wrong here....).

I really hope a BIOS fix will be out soon if not on Asus Support site, they could post it here in the forum. I know @ColonelS have talked to the guys who are supposed to fix this, but I haven't seen any new update/fix about that 😞

I see. :S Alright, thanks. I'll buy the one they recommended, then, and use that and ThrottleStop until a BIOS fix is found. Thanks!

Hehe no problem. It's important to let other ROG G-series user to know that there is a issue on these notebooks, that should have been fixed a long time ago by Asus.

Yeah. For one, the standard charger is 150W, when it should have been 180W standard. And also, they really need to fix the Sandy Bridge issue before trying to develop a new model. Now G75 is out and I feel both pressured and not to buy the new one. :S But I honestly don't have enough money to do that anyway, so I am just sticking to this one, but now I have to buy the 180W charger, and upgrade the SSD (because the standard one is too small for my taste)....etc.

Agreed! The standard charger for these notebooks should at least have been 180W.

About the G75, that notebook won't suffer from the throttling issue since it got the Ivy Brigde controller and not Sandy Bridge controller. Unless there is any undiscovered issues with the Ivy Bridge that Intel haven't discovered yet.

But yes, the throttling issue should have been fixed before they released the G74. Better product with better support will give the buyer better experience of the brand and most likely they will stick to the same brand next time they look at a new notebook or something.
In other words they should have listend to the issues on the previous models and looked into how to fix that on the new model so it wont happend (and give a fix for the previous ones).

Which SSDs are you looking at?

If only I had about $2000 or so, I'd buy the G75 and abandon my G74. To me, throttling is that much of an issue because of games like Civilization V, where performance just drops.

As for SSDs, I made a thread here: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?13188-SSD-Replacement-Upgrade-Help&country=&status=

Check the last post I made there; it's actually very crucial. :S

does the throttling happens in day to day tasks or does it happens only while gaming ? the reason why i asked is because i dont play games .......also will unparking the parked cores fix the throttling or is not a related issue ?
