G74Sx cpu temperatures??

Hello fellow RoG's,

Yesterday I suddenly experienced the fans in my G74Sx starting to race like hell and the hot air venting out of the rear suddenly seemed much warmer than usual... So I installed RealTemp and had it log while I was playing a bit of Battlefield Bad Company 2.
Here are the results:

Is it me or doesn't this seem quite hot? I mean, 90 degrees after maybe 20 seconds @ 50% CPU?

The laptop is only 7 months old and as far as I can tell, there is no dust in the vents... It just suddenly started this behaviour... I haven't OC'ed it, never have.

Hi

Which driver do you have installed on the GPU and have you updated your Intel chipset lately?
Also be sure that your atheros wifi card is updated to a stable version (in this thread you can find the driver) if you haven't changed it.

7 months.... can be enough time for the dust to gether in the fans so I would recommend you to buy some compressed air, blow it into the exhaust and you will see a lot of dust coming out from the fans.

Also you could download CCleaner and run the register check to clean the system for old system files that is left behind after uninstalls and updates.

Thanks for the reply.

I forgot to give details about my g74sx.

The CPU is the 2.0Ghz i7, 2630 I think it's called.
I exchanged the Atheros wifi card with an Intel 6230.
I added a Samsung SSD in slot1 HDD bay and moved the native HDD to slot2.

This has been some time ago though and the laptop has been running flawless since, untill this.

The gfxdriver is the latest whql from Nvidia and I use the latest chipset drivers.

- I will reformat it today and see how that impacts the laptop.

What are "normal" temperatures for my CPU? I had it running Prime95 yesterday and it hit the temperatures as shown above, 76-78 celcius overall and some of the cores up to 92 celcius.

- I meant, it goes up to 84-86 celcius overall and up to 93 celcius on the cores.

Okey, as I have understood in this forum about the G74 is that when it's at idle or normal use (web surfing, write documents and such) it will have 40 celcius, and while playing games the temp as @Alilas is getting.

Try out the compressed air and see if that helps 🙂

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Well I'm a bit confused here...
I did blow out the vents with an indstry air compressor and there was quite some dust in there.
My idle temperature is now 42-45 degrees celsius in Windows while computer is doing nothing but usual tasks, like windows update, antivirus, mail programme etc. This in a 22 degree room without any active airflow.

I then ran a Prime95 torture test(max heat, max power consumption). After 1 hour of 100% CPU I had CPU temperature dancing between 81 and 84 degrees celsius, but no more than 84 at any time. The individual cores rose as high as 93 degrees celsius.

No doubt the cleaning of the vents did something, but the temperatures still seem a bit high?
- And would you guys RMA this or is it within "acceptable parameters"?

Thanks for past and future replies!

That doesn't seem excessive to me.....
