G74SX cover sticky and gooey, any solution?

The lid (and to a lesser extent the palm rest) of my G74SX has gone all rubbery / gooey and tacky and I haven't a clue why,  I didn't wipe it down with any liquids or chemicals, usually just dust it off with a cloth.  It  was stored on a shelf while I was in hospice and when it was brought to me it was just like it was rubbery and extremely sticky.

Is there  something I can do short of replacing the case (at least the lid) to make this usable again?  Can't use it like it is as it grabs dust / lint / hairs / dirt etc and I MEAN it grabs everything to stick on it.

Wipe/Rub it down with a lint free cloth (microfiber cloth) with Rubbing alcohol or Isopropyl alcohol.

Thanks for the suggestion, It seems with enough elbow grease and desire this may actually work.  I just did a tiny area on the lid and it's a whole lot less sticky, so I'm going to let it dry to check and make sure I'm not damaging it more but indeed from the tiny area it seems it may work if I work on it long enough.
