G74sx Bios update failure

Hello, I was told to update my bios because it was out of date. I attempted to flash my bios to 203 and the bios was deleted without installing the new version. The system shutdown after deleting and will not power on. I have even tried to reset the bios and still nothing. This has never happened to me before. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

I downloaded the file and used I think the bios lash utility to try and update it. It has worked before, so I'm not quite sure why it didn't work this time...

It is well explained the method to update the bios in the G74 in this forum. You should (must) update using the onboard bios software from a FAT32 usb pen disk. Using winflash will render your pc useless (it did not in mine i think i just got lucky) and you never should use a NTFS formatted pen disk with the file bios file.

You have the right to complain, specially when there is a BIOS software for windows and a BIOS file to work with it in the asus support page.. But that thing is crap!
The only way to recover your laptop is to send it to repair.

I guess companies always miss something in their programing. Unfortunately... Yea, I already sent the thing in... they are going to replace the motherboard... I bet you could imagine how much that is going to cost. <-_->

The funny thing though is this is the first time this has failed for me... I have always done it from the hard drive. (of course I practiced on a my in expensive practice computer a few times). But never had any issues until now.

So it has to be done from a FAT32 USB 2.0 flash drive hu? would exFAT work too? has this ever failed for you?

In case of ASUS this is not just bad programming. It is bad programming and 'i don't care' attitude.

I tried both methods.
When i bought the g74 i immediately updated the BIOS with the easyflash software. It all went smoothly. Later when i started to come to this forum everyone was complaining they were bricking g74 at full speed. So i thought i was lucky. There are several posts and comments regardind update failure with this method. (i updated from 201 to 202)

Then i tried the other method. Updating from the BIOS software. (from 202 to 203). I had previously read several reports of people complaining they bricked AGAIN their g74 with this method. And the guilty this time was the NTFS file format. YOU HAVE TO FORMAT YOUR PEN DRIVE AS A FAT32. forget other file systems like exFAT, you will brick it again, lol.

IMO, when you get your new MB you will have the 203 bios so no more updates for it and for you, lol

Take Care.

I found the 204 update. You think this might be beneficial?
