G74sx and drivers. (crashes)

Hi. Saw a thread the other day where one guy had problems with his g74sx
had its "explorer not responding" I had the same problems. so I tought it
was my SSD that was the problem.
So Ive been in with contact with corsair trying to get help, so first of all
im going to try it on my desktop soon.

But when I saw that thread I started to think, what if it's not the SSD?
What if its the drivers that is causing the problems on a G74sx.

I solved my "explorer not responding" with reinstalling + new drivers.
But my laptop is still unstable as hell.

It works fine to games most of the times. But It really wants to freeze sometimes.
Like when using internet explorer/steam somtimes. and other programs.
And when it freezes, either its "almost" dead, I try ctrl alt del but the activity window wont show up. It just says something like, loading secure options or something.
But nothing happens. So I reboot.

OR they system dies instant, so only way is to reboot.

Its quite annoying. But im there soon.

Maybe I should try reinstalling IE? or try Firefox.

Some new drivers might fix all these problems maybe.
But will take some time I guess.

Im not saying that it is this way, will try it on my desktop in some days.
and then I will know for sure.

I would give the beta Verde driver in Chastity's thread a shot. It seems to have helped several people on this forum:

Its a nice thread. But doesnt seem to help me very much.
Im not 100% sure if its the drivers yet so.

And my system is just reinstalled.
Shouldnt have these problems.

That is true; that thread is not so much a troubleshooting guide as it is a compilation of the best drivers and firmware. I guess let us know how your test goes if you want to try that first and we'll do our best to help you from there.

I thought I was done with this issue, no more freezes, but yesterday it happened again.
I'm running the 280.19 gfx driver set.

Please reply if you figure out what is causing your freezes man, I will do the same.

Bleh. the explorer is not responding is back again-.-.

All I can find is (going to try to translate it)
"Application error 1000"
The error appeared in the program explorer.exe, version 6.1.7601.17567
The problem was found in the module ntdll.dll, version 6.1.7601.17514

This might be the log causing the freezing. or atleast, this is what happends when explorer freezes.

Also, I have on more variant of the error. saying the exact same thing, but instead of ntdll.dll it's "ASUSWSShellExt64.dll, version 1.1.0.27"

Would be awesome with some help.

EDIT: neonfisk do you use a ssd? cause I do. But im starting to think that some drivers in my laptop might be bugged:P

Im starting to consider if it's something strange with asus ATK drivers?
Would love to hear from Xeromist what he thinks :P.

Im having troubles with freezes, explorer not responding. and some other strange stuff sometimes.

I did a clean install of W7 and ATK and then my "explorer.exe not responding"
problem were gone. But the system was still unstable as hell.
and now its back like I said.

Also another bugg with ATK is that it stopped working without a reason.
So the hotkeys + backelit on the keyboard stopped working.
So reinstalled it again(hotkeys fixed & light)

and the ATK driver made my screen to go to 50% brightness or something,
but I couldnt higher it(because it was showing 100%, but it wasnt)
Did what xeromist said, and reinstalled AGAIN.
(fixed)

So, does Asus know about this? seem's like they should try to fix some stuff
and release a new version xD

Edit: Would like to add that neonfisk seem's to have the same problem, so I'm not alone anyways.

This sounds like it might be related to ASUS WebStorage then. I'm pretty sure it's included with your laptop but if you're not using it then I would just disable or uninstall it. You can remove things from running on startup either through application menus or if they make it difficult just run msconfig from the windows run box. I'd disable anything not absolutely required (you can always enable later) and see if you still get crashes.

If you still get crashes after minimizing startup items then I'd point to either a driver or a lower level service. (The windows service manager can be somewhat daunting to browse because many of the items are cryptic but you can get to it by right-clicking on My Computer and going to Manage. Services will be part of the tree on the left.

Hello!

You need to upgrade to the latest version of ASUSWebStorage3.0.108.222 and Explorer does not crash anymore!
