Hello guys,
I was about to purchase a G74SX A1 from B&H Online store as it is a reliable store & had a very good price compared to others. But today when I checked the site it said that this product has been discontinued by the manuf. Not only the A1 but several other models.
When I contacted their reps. they too said that the production is stopped.
Is this true guys?

Ok,I ll do as u say.
Just one more thing, even if these issues arise later they can repaired under warranty, right?Bcoz there are Asus service centres where I live,so I guess I ll be able to use the Global warranty even in India to get these issues resolved.
So which model would u guys suggest for my budget of 1550$?
Hoping I ll soon be a happy ROG Lappy owner...
😄

I would focus on which hardware features you really want. For example, do you really want it to have a blu-ray drive, or is DVD/CD okay? Do you need it to have two hard drives? ( I honestly wouldn't care how much RAM it has, since it's so easy and cheap to add more of that.)

I think the A1 is pretty fully-featured at your $1550 price point. But if you don't need the BD drive, there are a number of great models that are otherwise similar for considerably less than that. Also, if you ever think you're going to add an SSD, like many people do, getting a model with one drive could make sense.

I won´t be that sure about global warrany. I am from south america (Argentina) and i ask them if they have service in here, even if they have in Brasil, i don´t mind getting up to there, and they told me that no. That i have to buy it in here to get the warranty. Im not telling that in India is the same, but you better ask!
Good luck!

AFIK the Global warranty is applicable in India.
To confirm i have sent a mail to to the Indian reps.

They may have just stopped for the fiscal year. Or they have a stock built up. Or they are going to retrain their quality dept.. or maybe . . .

Look at it this way, if your machine couldn't be repaired and they had no direct replacements, they would probably have to give you the new hopefully improved replacement!

@Brodyboy,
I wanted the A1 bcoz it offers the best config at that price(1.5Tb Hd,Bag,mouse, etc.)
BD Drive is not my utmost priority.
I think the TH71 would be a good option. The only difference is ,it has 500GB HD & it does not include Bag n Mouse. So could u guys suggest some good medium priced Gaming mouse, bag(link would be appreciated).
Also suggest a 500Gb Hd(I dont need a SSD)
Thanks,please reply..

I just got my G74SX A1 in the mail from J&R... I saw that same deal for $1479 and jumped on it! I also found a 'free shipping' code so I got it for $1479 delivered to boot 🙂

That was a 'Black Friday' deal I think as when I went back to look at it the next day it was back up to $1599 on there. I just powered this up yesterday for the first time and she is spot on perfect so far except for the speakers not being all that great but I went into THX and adjusted them to 'external speakers' and they sound about 15% better now. But as far as the 'bugs' I have been reading about I have not run into one yet. Mine is quiet with no fan noise, the keyboard and the trac pad work great as well...

The only thing that had me scratching my head was that when I installed the newest drivers from NVDA for the GPU and tried to watch a blue ray I could not see a picture, it was blacked out in ROXIO Cinema but I could hear it... So I rolled the drivers back and it works now. Will have to see what's up with that but I have been reading this forum to try to find out a solution.

So far I am VERY HAPPY and the service and shipping from JR.com has been great. I orderd a new router and MW3 which will be here tomorrow from there as well. Can't wait to test out MW3, that will be the first game I install on here.

That's the way it goes. NVIDIA releases a new driver and some applications may not work as they used to. The Roxio CinePlayer does not appear to be the most robust DVD player, so I'm not surprised. Skype also has issues with the latest NVIDIA drivers: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?5517-Latest-NVIDIA-drivers-Official-Beta-and-Modded&p=48868...
