G74S Screen goes black intermittently

I have a G74S with 320.49 driver. I always have intermittent strange artifacts when running Chrome but I can switch tabs to get rid of the issue. Lately, however, the whole screen sometimes goes black. I can't get it back using the fn keys to toggle the display or change the output (f8's alternate function). It does work properly when it comes back from hibernation. So, as a workaround, I hibernate and restore. But that takes a few minutes.

What I'm looking for is a batch file that I can easily get by hitting the Windows key and running it. It would do some sort of hard reset of the display adapter. Something I can type blind when the screen is black. Does anyone have any suggestions for something that might work?

Thanks,
Mark

Assume you aren't able to use the ASUS approved vga driver on the ASUS G74Sx download site, but if you can, may be something worth considering.
If you didn't already determine this, sounds like there is some other kind of software/driver issue or possibly hardware issue though causing this problem.

Anyway, if you aren't able to try other things, you might also try going into standby mode and waking up, but expect you've already looked into this if you are hibernating and restoring.

Thanks for the reply. This problem has happened about 4 times, and I hadn't tried just sleeping yet. I don't keep a battery in my computer and I mve it around a lot, so I'm used to just hibernating. I just switched over to the latest driver on the download site. I seem to remember that it would cause my PC to lock up for about 2 seconds at random times and then cause the video driver to recover whereas the nVidia site drivers just caused video artifacts. Everytime Chrome changes, the video artifacts change a little, so the ASUS approved driver might be OK now. I'll report the results as I learn more.
