G73JW Series Technical Issues

Random
Level 7
Righto...first of all, let me apologize if this is in the wrong spot. There doesn't really seem to be a tech advice forum, so I figured this would be the next best thing.

I bought me a G73JW Series laptop about two years ago now. Been using it pretty regularly (if not somewhat excessively) for a combination of school, gaming, and video stuff.

Before the warranty expired, I sent the laptop in for repairs at an Asus shop back in Toronto. The issue I was having was that the system would randomly shut off whenever I played Heroes of Might and Magic V. I though, maybe, it was just overheating...but that seems unlikely given that the game is somewhat dated and this computer handles most newer and presumably more taxing games without issue (Arkham City runs fine, Crysis runs fine, Metro 2033 runs fine). In fact, the only game that seemed to be an issue with was HoM&M V. But I figured my warranty is basically up anyways, so I may as well have an expert take a look and see what's what.

Got it back, ran pretty much fine. Few months later, I updated my nVidia graphics driver and everything pretty much started going downhill. Now my computer randomly freezes - completely. As in I can't even use the keys to "ctrl+alt+del" leaving me with the painful option of just pushing in the power button and doing and restarting the whole computer. Further, I'm also playing my way through Dungeon Siege II (I've been feeling nostalgic) and within the past week, my computer has shut itself down without warning at least ten times while playing that game. Again, I thought it was a heating issue...but nothing on the laptop feels hot. Further, it doesn't even sound like my fans are being especially taxed at all (they keep quietly humming, but they don't seem to kick it into high gear like they used to). I mean, Dungeon Siege II is pretty old, it shouldn't be taxing such a powerful system that heavily, right?

Weird thing is, I can still play Arkham City without issue.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Revert to an earlier graphics driver. I've been reading various problems with the latest Nvidia driver so until an updated one is released I wouldn't use it.
