G73JH reliability?

Excuse my ignorance for being a new user and asking a somewhat crude question but I'm looking into buying a new laptop and this model is one of two that I'm looking at.

As I'm travelling and had bad experiences with my current Advent Roma (POS) with frequent BSOD and all, reliability is of my top concern since I probably will never be in the living or financial situation to get it repaired without self diagnostics, which I'd love to avoid!

I've found a used G73JH for around $1300 USD and an Alienware M17xR2 for $1000 USD and I've been trying to side with which one to go for. The Alienware does seem solid, regardless of opinions on the brand's namesake with all the unnessecary flashy bits and I do side towards the Asus because of this but both seem around the same specs. The G73 as follows:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Cpu: i7-720QM
Memory: 8GB
Hard Drive: 1TB (2x 500GB)
Graphics: Ati Radeon HD5870M 1GB
Blu-Ray Drive

And apparently is at least a year old.

Of course I know these forums are only ever active when people have a problem, not when the system is working just fine, but I'd like to be either reassured or cautioned with my potential purchase. G73JH owners, have long have you had it and have you encountered any significant problems? The same goes for any possible Alienware M17 users.

Thanks in advance!

I think those prices are a bit too high. You could *almost* buy one of the newer G75/G55 at that price, just search around ebay or to get a rough idea about prices enter this website:

Enter the different threads and make your own idea about prices.

If you search the forums for the model you can see for yourself. They seem pretty decent to me apart from needing a vBIOS update to fix some overheating problem and having some kind of driver issue for the ones using nVidia (if I remember correctly).
