G73JH Just shuts down

I bought this laptop in June. The symptom is a sudden shutdown ie power completely off, kapoot, no notice, simply the zorp of electricity leaving the body and the screen image disappearing into blank space. Sometimes I can turn it right back on, other times I have to wait for it to cool down I imagine. It was scary the first time the latter happened, I thought my laptop was borked and that the greater powers of the universe were punishing me for certain... indiscretions. :cool: It started doing this a couple of months ago in 3d intensive games, but lately it's even been doing it when simply installing new games on steam or trying to burn a cd. I tried a fresh format and install from a windows 7 system disc and it even did it during that! I had to place an oscillating fan next to it just to get my system loaded. Obviously it seems to be a temperature issue. As the clear headed customer asks, "What are my options?" I'm going to try installing speedfan to see just how hot it gets. It's a bit disheartening to see things fall apart so soon in, but that's how all my relationships go it seems. (He he :cool:) Do you guys recommend some kind of external laptop cooling device? Am I still in warranty for some kind of RMA?

1) What CPU and GPU temperatures (in C) are reported in SpeedFan or HWINFO64 when your system is idling (no programs running)?

2) What temperatures are reported just before the system crashes? I recommend configuring the temperature monitoring software to LOG temps.

The fact that you can't immediately restart the system does point to a possible overheating issue. If you've already tried blowing out the fan exhausts with compressed gas, a repaste may be in your future. Where did you purchase your laptop? It should still be under warranty since you've had it less than a year. However, I have read reports where certain foreign Service Centers will not perform warranty work on systems purchased in the USA.

I used some endust the other day; seemed to do the trick. It's odd, I barely saw any dust come out, just a clump and some stray particles, but whatever does the trick! Thus far, I've barely heard the fans go into high rev mode playing 3d games, and while my cynicism would normally lead me to conclude that to mean I broke the fans, the machine simply doesn't feel as hot as it used to. I guess since I'm new to the whole laptop thing it just wouldn't occur to me that such a basic maintenance maneuver would be so important. Here's hoping all's well that ends well! I'd recommend sticking to compressed gas for blowing out the fan exhausts. You don't want any type of residue left on the hardware.

I know this method is weird but lol it worked on my good old ES G73JH.

When i start any 3D intensive games. The whole machine suddenly sound like *TURBINE ENGINE* running off full speed exhausting hot air thru the vents. And then KAPOOT! Gone cant boot -.-

What i do:

Remove the battery and let it cool down for at least 30mins.. Same goes for the laptop. After that everything went back to normal when i dont start any 3D intensive games. I'm pretty sure the fan exhaust is the problem.
