G731GW - Screen tearing problem despite all drivers are installed and up to date

Hey everyone,

2 days ago, Friday, I bought a G731GW (ROG Strix Scar III) which has 144Hz, FHD display with Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070. Despite playing games which don't demand high graphics, I experience screen tearing during gameplay. All the drivers and Windows 10 updates are installed. Also, I am not able to manage my display through Nvidia Control Panel as it only provides 1 section which is "Manage 3D Settings". I have asked this situation on the official GeForce forums, they said that I should see three sections on Nvidia Control Panel; otherwise it means Intel GPU (integrated GPU) manages the display. I couldn't find an option to select my dedicated GPU as the graphics processor in the BIOS. I think this could be the reason for my bad experience as after my old laptop (Alienware) gave me this chance, its performance got really fast and smooth. As currently despite a powerful GPU, I am not able to get the most of it and I am really disappointed with my first experience with Asus so far. Please, could you help me to solve this annoying problem on my brand-new laptop?

After only 2 days, return the laptop to seller for replacement or refund.

Unfortunately, they do not accept return except than Asus confirms the replacement.

Get a RMA from ASUS and return laptop to them for repair and/or replacement.

Yes, I'll be going to the service this Wednesday. Do you think this is a hardware or software problem? If the latter, I'd like to solve this issue myself. So, looking for possible solutions.

If it was mine, I would perform a System Recovery using the OEM partition on the OS drive. This would return the laptop to near OEM condition. If that issue still exists, ASUS RMA is only solution.

I would also complain to the seller that you are having to have ASUS make repairs and I would complain to ASUS that the seller is not standing by their product.

A user/owner should NOT have to go through this ever after just two days.

Good Luck

Cannot agree more, thank you so much for your comment. Let's see what their response will be. @jdfrench3

Isn't there a way to let my Nvidia GPU manage the display?? The current situation is really disappointing..

I have fixed my problem by changing resolution and refresh rate.
