I did a clean install on mine couple years ago. I just followed the guide in our site. Loaded like 3 or 4 asus programs including the smart logon I like that it see my face and logs in. Have had no (serious) problems had to get a new battery but it is still under geek squad warranty so no cost to me for the new battery. Also folded on it while I played wow d3 sc and currently pretty heavy into Battlefield 3 .
first thing I noticed was how much faster the machine runs.
As far as the needed software and drivers are concerned, ASUS now has then on its download site.

Hey I am having problems with the kb fix for the light. I updated the ATK and then made the bootable usb . When I type fixkb in dos it says return 0 at the bottom of the screen but I am not seeing anything flash like related. If it did work my keyboard is still not working and when I boot up it flashes so I know the light still works. I can also cut it up and down with Fn 3-4

also I have a g73jh

Sorry for the late reply, but from this post it sounds like your keyboard light is working correctly ?
You would want to use the fixmykb utility to get the keyboard light to flash when you power on the notebook and hopefully work normally in Windows too, but it doesn't go through a normal bios flash or flash the keyboard light when you run it.

If you can turn off and on the keyboard light with Fn+F3/F4, that's what you want to see for a properly working keyboard light, so everything sounds normal to me.

It's too bad somebody "in the know" couldn't update this thread actually and get rid of all the irrelevant gibberish, heh heh
You can find the Win7.iso you need here: http://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/14-windows-7-direct-download-links
BUT!!! ... I'm not sure now which one is best? I have the original version posted on this site (X17-24209.iso) but it is now old. Looks like we now want either X17.58997.iso (WIN7 SP1 U) or the X15.65733.iso (Win7 SP1 RTM) ???
Be nice if someone could verify which version we should use ... both are Home Premium but I don't know what the "U" or the "RTM" means??? or which would be best?
