G56JK Audio Out options

Hello All,

I just bought a ROG G56JK and I had a few questions to which I can't find the answers. I'm trying to connect my computer to an old Sony Surround Sound Control Center (STR-K660P) without much luck. It doesn't look like my computer shares any ports with the Control Center and I can't figure out my options. Is there an optical toslink on the laptop I'm missing? Does the DCIN port have more functionality I'm unaware of? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and for the full setup, I've got an Infocus Screenplay 4805 projector (No TV). Ideally I'd like to be able to use the projector as a pc monitor to watch the Premier League online and use the Control Center for audio.

No optical toslink on this one.

Interfaces
1 x Microphone-in jack
1 x Headphone-out jack (SPDIF)
1 x VGA port/Mini D-sub 15-pin for external monitor
4 x USB 3.0 port(s)
1 x RJ45 LAN Jack for LAN insert
1 x HDMI

The closest you have is the headphone jack that doubles as a S/PDIF port.

If your projector has a D-SUB 15 PIN/VGA (many projectors do), you can connect using that. If not, let us know what interfaces it touts and we can advise from there. 🙂

We customize Asus, MSI, and Clevo laptops!

SultanPepper22, you can use the HDMI for modern Home Theater Receivers / Pre-amps and take the audio there.

You can use a SPDIF to Toslink cable to connect from the headphone jack. That is what I use to connect Toslink to my RS-220.

Or, use the analogue audio out from the headphone jack.

You may need a receiver in between the laptop and the projector to accomplish what you need. To split the audio / video out two different ports. You can only drive one Audio output at a time. You select the audio device and set it as default, one device at a time.

If you have video out from HDMI then you can change the audio output to another device, but then audio stops going through HDMI.

A receiver/preamp will give you more options.

Also I hoped never to be the person to post something dumb, but it occurred to me a soon as I wasn't in a position to fix it that I asked about audio capability of the DCIN port...you know...the one that powers the computer...

So that happened

SultanPepper22, yup, happens to all of us, a constant learning experience, even after all these years working on computers - something new and sometimes unexpected comes along to throw us a curve 🙂

Glad to hear you are on track for a solution.

The Toslink output is awesome, and noise free, the RS-220's, and I am sure other Toslink devices, sound awesome with that optical output from the G56JK.

Have fun 🙂

Thank you so much! I looked into the spdif to toslink cable option and realized the cord I bought to run audio from the xbox to the surround sound has an adapter attached. I had no idea the headphone port doubled that way.

Also in case you're wondering why I'm not using an HDMI it's because the projector has no HDMI in. I have to use component cables which really isn't a big deal it's just annoying.

This should work perfectly, thanks again!
