SultanPepper22, you can use the HDMI for modern Home Theater Receivers / Pre-amps and take the audio there.
You can use a SPDIF to Toslink cable to connect from the headphone jack. That is what I use to connect Toslink to my RS-220.

Or, use the analogue audio out from the headphone jack.
You may need a receiver in between the laptop and the projector to accomplish what you need. To split the audio / video out two different ports. You can only drive one Audio output at a time. You select the audio device and set it as default, one device at a time.
If you have video out from HDMI then you can change the audio output to another device, but then audio stops going through HDMI.
A receiver/preamp will give you more options.
