G55VW - anyone have SPDIF output working in Windows 10?

Hi - I have a G55VW RS71. I have driver number 6.0.11.1100 installed and the headphones work when plugged in, speakers work
when I unplug the headphones. But I can't get sound when I connect a DAC/AMP to the laptop.
I also have the VIA applet running and can choose SPDIF but I get no sound out when using spdif.
I know how to use the windows "playback devices" and to choose spdif as default.
I tried other drivers but they didn't seem to work with the headphones direct. Had similar issues as others on the forum until I tried this driver.
I have tested my DAC/heaphone amp. It works with XBOX spdif output. My opticaI cable glows red when connected to the laptop.
This all worked under Windows 7. I've looked throught the past threads and found no specific answers. Anybody have this working?

I use spdif on my Crosshair V motherboard and windows 10
I installed the latest drivers from realtek and have dts and dd when playing movies but only 2.0 sound when playing games, the software that comes with realtek doesn't work, sonic plugin 1 and 2 doesn't install / work and I can't find help on that.
