G551jw Slow fan, gpu throttling

every time i have long gaming sessions, (after like 1 h) gpu throttles (at 74 degrees) but the fan is not reacting: it stays at 30% of total speed or sth and its very, very quiet.
when i use sony vegas and when i render videos, it spins fast af (i can tell this from the noise it makes).

is anyone there having a solution for my problem?
i am getting crazy when the laptop starts lagging in games. it's still in warranty, so i'm thinking at returning it.

the files have the suffix "after update" because i updated the bios to the latest version when i noticed the problem.
using latest video driver.

There is no point in an RMA because this isn't a hardware problem you're experiencing. The G551JW model (as well as others) are GPU temp limited which is dependent on the system BIOS version you're using, so you'll need a modified VBIOS to correct this. You can go to VOLTGROUND (in my signature) and follow our guide that allows you to replace the VBIOS with our modified one, allowing a higher GPU temp limit among other tweaks as well.

Now if you don't want to have any performance/stability tweaks but want the temp limit raised only, then let me or Compwxr know in a PM and we can do that for you. Our modified VBIOS may present another issue with your notebook regarding whether or not you need to do a repaste to take advantage of the improvements. This is why I mentioned only to have the temp limit raised instead if that's what you want.

If you don't feel comfortable flashing anything other than ASUS releases, then you can always download and run NBFC (NoteBook FanControl) and select the "ASUS Zenbook UX31A" config. This will control the fan in your notebook which can be forced to run at max speed or with user-defined temperature points for peaceful or aggressive fan speed operation.

i dont want to raise the throttle temp of the gpu.
i just want to make the fan to spin faster when the gpu reaches ~70 degrees.

notebook fan control actually works (tried other software before that didn't), but how do i configure it to use the fan's full speed when the Gpu (not cpu) reaches 70 degrees for example?

Since the G551JW is a single fan design, the best you can do is try to change the fan state register in NBFC fan config for CPU from 151 to the register for GPU temp instead. However, CPU thermals and fan logic signal still has the CPU as primary fan controller regardless of EC reported GPU thermals as nearly every ROG Notebook behaves in this way. This can be found when using RWEverything and opening EC_SC table where it displays this based on similar registers in the past. So, you'll need to either base the trip points off CPU temp as before or simply move the slider to 100% when required or play around with the registers using one of my guides here to make sense of it.
