G55 - Windows 8 - Installing new SSD - Assistance Please

Hello,

I'm sure these questions has been asked\answered hundreds of times already but at the moment I only have access to the web at work and they frown upon us surfing around so I apologize for the redundant post.

I just bought a G55 with Windows 8 for the OS. I'm planning on installing a 240GB SSD drive but I was advised that there is no OS install CD that comes with the laptop. How can I install Windows 8 that came with the laptop on the new SSD that I'm installing? I don't have access to any other computer at this time (old one died and attempts to revive has failed hence the new G55). Would I just make a system recovery CD, install the SSD and then install the OS like normal? Will the system recovery CD that I burn even install the OS on the SSD?

Any help that you can give me is much appreciated.

Ok, I have a friend that has an external USB 3.0 HDD enclosure that will work with the SSD 2.5". Would that work for cloning software?

it should be fine. sorry i cannot give you any cloning software that i can confirm to work.

That's ok, thanks so much for all your information.

Does anyone know of a cloning software that will work with Windows 8?

I'm pretty sure that Norton Ghost latest version will came free with my Samsung 830, Acronis 2013 with Plus package claims it will, I have not tested the cloning feature yet as I clean installed. All the back up features work well in Win 8 pro.

@Mace03

Here is my thread regarding my experience recently cloning the my preconfigured Windows 8 G75 in which I successfully cloned the system but later found out the metro UI Apps don't work(used DriveClone). In the end, I did a clean install since product codes are tied to the BIOS now. The new G75VWs w/ Windows 8 no longer come with recovery disks so you will have to get an install disk somewhere.

How have you liked Windows 8? I have the option of returning the laptop for a windows 7 version. I've heard mixed reviews.

@Mace03

So far I've managed to get everything working drivers and all and didn't bother installing any of the ASUS bloatware(may consider instantOn). With sound working as intended, I think Windows 8 experience is not so bad once you get used to it. To my surprise, I found watching a Newegg Intro on Windows 8 or any other demo vid to be quite informative in terms of getting to know the OS. I think for anyone jumping on Windows 8 should definitely check it out.
