Hey guys,
I recentely got a G53sx and have noticed a weird issue with the screen.
It is not visible at maximum brightness, and hard to notice at minimum brightness, but anywhere in between the bottom half/two-thirds of the screen displays a kind of inconsistent illumination, with the light coming out in waves moving from the bottom to the top. They are not straight lines and do not distort the image on the screen in any other way, making me think it is a lighting problem. It is most visible during video playback, and harder to notice during gaming/general use. Naturally, it shows up most when there are solid colours on the screen.
I have tested with an external monitor, which did not display the same issue. I noticed it immediately when I received the laptop, after a fresh install of windows, as well as before and after driver updates/rollbacks.
Once I suck up the courage and find the time I will pull the thing apart and check the screen connectors so see if they just need reseating or something, but to get that deep into the thing requires pretty much totally dismantling it. I have unsuccessfully tried taking photos of the issue, so will attempt a video recording and see if that works.
I'm far from an expert, but it seems to be some issue with the backlight being faulty or receiving inconsistent amounts of power. This is a second hand laptop so RMA is not an option, and the seller (naturally) says that it wasn't doing that when he sent it.
I have investigated replacement screens, but they are all glossy and I much prefer the matte one I have at the moment so hope to avoid dropping the couple hundred dollars on a screen I like less.
Any help would be much appreciated.
