New guy here..

I recieved this laptop bout a week and a half ago and for the most part I am enjoying it. I did and maybe still do have the Black Screen on Boot. Spoke with ASUS support about it and they had me reset the motherboard as I have seen posted throughout these forums beforehand. But now I have come across another issue that has pushed me towards just returning it and purchasing a completely diferent brand.

Ok, so I have read the bads about the sounds with the realtek/thx chip on mobo. I am completely disappointed over all with sounds from this unit. Thing is, the specs indicated that this unit had 4 speakers. I am positive i only have 2. I even got the Logitek z350 laptop speakers which greatly enhances sounds by far but i am not getting all the sounds.

If anyone out there has this unit, can you chime in with your experience? Are you dealing with the Black Screen on Boot up from time to time? Do you actually have 4 speakers responding to sound?

My best example of not getting all sounds are... Youtube and Iheartradio louder than games such as WoW and can barely hear Skyrim volume turned all the way up. Also, when playing Cityville, yes Cityville :P, I cannot hear the sounds of collecting the coins and other drops.

I have some pc experience. Was nursing my Gateway with upgrades and replaced mobo since 2000 up to this purchase. I really like this lappie and would not like to return it if someone can tell me if there is any possible fixes to my issues.

Any comments appreciated!!

how do you go about resetting the motherboard , i also have a black screen on boot up for 15 seconds right after the windows logo... but only on boot up not on restart ....

I turn on lappie and the screen stays black. Nothing comes on, no cursor, no logo, nothing. If I leave it on it will actually load up and I get the W7 chime for logon screen but it never turns on during the process.

According to Asus Support for the issue I have described and also seen within these forums;

Shutdown pc - remove battery - remove power adapter - hold down power for 40secs and release

Plug in power adapter and press power.

I just pop the battery back in after logging in.

I encountered this issue again today so I will be sending it back tonight. This really is an awesome lappie and i hate to let it go but of course being a customer i need to be satisfied. The worst part is, I heard nothing but good things about Asus and was looking so forward to owning my own but the speaker/sound issue doesn't seem like it can be resolved.

Laptops shouldn't do this (boot up to a black screen) out-of-the-box. If you like the laptop and a Factory Restore doesn't resolve the issue, exchange it for a new unit.

EDIT: Here is an article with some other things you might try: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/why-is-my-screen-black-when-i-start-windows-7

A Windows System Restore to the earliest restore point on your system is a quick first step troubleshooting procedure.

So, I have been checking in to see if anyone has tackled this issue. Guess you all just RMAed it? No out there has successfully fixed this?

OK, so last week I got my RMA # and I'm bout to send it in within the next 2 days. I just want to know if its OK to include in my brief description of things i tried like reseating hdd and memory. Or should I not? I gave them a pretty good description of the 3 problems I've been dealing with. And it is being shipped to Milpitas, CA. if anyone want to share their input and what to expect.

Truth is, I never got this issue fixed but I am still using and have been using this laptop on a daily basis. I have since then upgraded to w10 but cannot get past build 1511 due to all reboots needed to update. Yes i still have to hold laptop in air to reboot if needed and hope and pray the screen comes back on. I really wish I did the rma back when I had the chance vs all the things I've tried to fix by opening it up but it was needed for work back then and was the only pc I had at the time. So why am I posting this? Hell I don't know but I am just amazed that this thing is still running and has been running everyday playing games like Ark and 7 Days to Die for hrs at a time.
