G53SW-XN1 laptop refuses to power on

Ok, so this morning in class my g53 laptop suddenly turned off without a warning. At first I thought it might of run out of power but it was plugged in. So I turned it back on, and all was fine for about 5 min after which it turned off instantly again without warning.

After this I left it alone for a few hours. I managed to turn it back on one last time later during the day but again it only lasted for a few minutes and now it won't power on at all. The only thing I can get it to do is flash the power button light for a split second when I press it and that is it.

I've tried the "hold power button with battery unplugged for 15-30 sec" trick, without any luck 😞

Help? 🙂

From your description, it sounds like your power supply has failed and no longer charges the battery. Do you see an orange LED indicating the battery is charging, or a green LED indicating the battery is charged? Or no LED?

If green, I would open the bottom of the laptop and attempt to reseat memory and HDD(s). I've heard of this bringing a dead system back to life from threads in this forum.

If you just got this system and are in the retailer's return or exchange period, you may want to consider that if the above fails. If you are beyond the return point, you may need to prepare for an RMA: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?7004-ASUS-ROG-Support-Guide-and-RMA-Procedure-READ-THIS-FIR...

I bought the laptop ~5 months ago so I'm pretty sure it is still under warranty, would opening it in this way break said warranty?

EDIT: When I plug the laptop an orange LED lights up on the front of it.

The G53 is more difficult to open and get at the HDD and memory than a G74. Here is a G53 Disassembly video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdQi2GMQRu8 and a step-by-step guide with pictures: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Disassemble-and-Upgrade-the-ASUS-G53SXSW/?ALLSTEPS

If you end up damaging the system through disassembly, ASUS will charge you for the repair, so it is best to RMA it if you are uncomfortable with the procedure.
