Im thinking you are battling two different issues here. Track pad and ram really dont have anything in common. If your RAM was screwed you would never boot.
Did you take the top off to change your RAM? You might want to take it off again if you did and recheck your ribbons.
So, after re-checking and re-attaching the keyboard and mouse pad etc. I did another quick Google search at 3am. problem solved.
I watched a video similar to this here:-
https://youtu.be/6vfmGE7wUJsand so the steps I took were almost identical to this... just in case someone else comes up with the problem.
For some reason, the built-in mouse, wasn't actually selected. So , solution is as follows:-
1-plug in wireless/wired mouse to navigate more easily.
2-tap windows icon/press windows key
3-select settings
4-select Devices
5-select Mouse & Touchpad
6-select Additional mouse options
***most important step below***
In the first submenu click the drop down arrow right next to Devices. The YouTube video differs from this and says you need to select 'elan', or what in my case said 'Device settings' or the far right tab of the submenu. This did absolutely nothing for me, so instead I clicked the drop down arrow, and, saw a picture of my mouse pad. Tap that, and, your mouse will be working again Oh, and, don't forget to click apply, thanks
7- As above, under "buttons" tab, click the drop down arrow next to where it says *Devices. Select Synaptics Touchpad, click apply, done.
hope that these steps help someone else, as it saved me a lot of frustration, after a week of not being able to solve this problem.
