G501JW NVMe M.2 SSD Support?

Griffiths
Level 7
Hi.

Does Asus G501JW support the NVMe M.2 SSD?

I got the Samsung 950 pro M.2 SSD NVMe (MZ-V5P256BW) but can't see it in BIOS or even recognised as a connected device in windows.

I have seen on the forum that others had similar problems on the G7XX models and GL552VW models. I tried all the recommendations (update bios, etc.) from those posts but wanted to know if there is a solution for G501 or G501 doesn't support NVMe drives?

Would be grateful for any help.
Thank you in advance.

Dears,

I don't known if some of you figure out how to running and detect in BIOS a M.2 Slot SSD 2280 and exacly which model will work with ASUS G501JW, I buy my ASUS at bestbuy and comes with normal SATA HDD who I want to change by M.2 slot, I buy some SSD M.2 who wasn't detect in BIOS and as Well I try to clean windows Keys, Create USB Win 10 Boots with Rufus, disable secure boot and other stufss and doesn't detect anything, this is the model I bought in past and return the item because doesn't work:

ALSO TESTS and DOESN'T WORK!! ASUS DOOOO SOMETHING!!!

- MZVLV512HCJH-00000 Samsung 512GB PM951 (PCIe_NVMe) V2 TLC UBX M.2 Samsung SSD -
- SAMSUNG SM951 512GB M.2 PCI-E
- INTEL M.2 Series 600p 512 GB SSDPEKKW512G7X1

ASUS NEVER give us a right response, a lot of people want to upgrade their notebooks to M.2 slot, but they can't because its not easy for Technical persons as well.

If someone can help and GIVE US ALL the exacly model who will works on ASUS G501JW (Best Buy Version)
my email is maiquelrinco@hotmail.com

Not sure if you've solve this yet. I have a G501vw, a tech from Fry's electronics said that it doesn't support the samsung NVMe m.2 950 so I purchased a v-nand 850 m.2. Is this accurate?

I don't mean to hi-jack your thread just thought it's a similar question.

hey guys i had the same problems on desktop with the NVMe it will not read on windows or see on bios but i got it fix! how? well i boot windows on Sata 3 SSD and install some driver from the NVMe company pages then it pop up on windows, turn it off and back you get new pages on bios only for that NVMe and you can install windows on it after that!! i gonna buy this Samsung 960 pro on this G501JW i hope it works same way like the desktop did!! 😉

here is some exemple
http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/consumer.html
use sata 3 slot as hdd or SSD as boot and install this NVMe Driver then your NVMe will be able to works for your computer. good luck!

I have G751JT that comes with M.2 slot. I found that you must use Samsung XP941 or SM951 AHCI.*

To all people having trouble with you G501JW's... Sorry but our models only support SATA III... I bought a Crucial MX300 M.2 525GB and replaced the HDD with a Crucial MX300 750GB SATA III... Don't forget to set AHCI in BIOS...

Been using the drives since December and monitoring them with HDD Sentinel. Never had a problem ever since. Just don't forget to turn off Superfetch and defrag schedules... Boot up times now at 10secs to desktop completely loaded...*

its kinda shame its only support for sata III when they type in PCIe x4 1406 MB/s <--- in the features pages what a lies!
and there's no info about PCIe x4 in bios updates or bios settings for buyer i feel like a i got scam!
and that sounds audio by rog is no where to be found in the support!
