G501JW - GPU throttle at 74 degree celsius

Hi everyone.
I've been using G501JW for two months.
There's a problem with modern and some old games.
about 5 minutes after the start of the game (e.g. GTA 5) at medium
settings (optimal according to nvidia experience) the temperature of the
graphics card rises to 74-78 degrees, while the GPU core frequency falls from
1029 MHz to 405 and the number of FPS drops by about a half.
Drivers are updated regularly. The current version of the graphics driver is 353.30 WHQL.
BIOS is also the newest of today (BIOS 206).
I bought a cooling pad with a good blowing, but it almost did not affect the
situation, since the bottom of the laptop has no cooling holes. The growth is only ~ 2
FPS.
The problem is the same as in this thread, but with the model G551JW: link .
the technical support doesn't send me a new BIOS but advises to take the laptop to an authorized service center.
do all the owners of this model have the same situation or just me?

guys, recently someone from forums.overclockers.ru managed to overcome throttling temperature of GPU GTX960M on my ASUS G501JW.
(screenshot attached).
Now you can increase the throttling temperature up to 92 degrees (or even remove it), and it remains after the changes in the nvidia inspector. the frequency of the GPU can be also changed (by more than 135 MHz), as well as GPU memory clock and GPU voltage.
60210

As a result, the video card now works much better.
Unigine Valley shows 1200 points with standard GPU settings, and then after unlock and overclocking the chip to 1400 MHz it is already 2000+ points.
But 3DMark 11 shows only 6000 points instead of 5500.

in GTA 5 the increase is noticeable (higher settings, less lag) but only up to the point of the processors' 84 degrees. then graphics settings have little effect, and you just need to move more slowly 🙂 i.e. if before lags mainly appeared in the moments of complicated special effects, now they do mostly at very dynamically changing scenes.

I play on 5000 coolers rpm. on 4000 there is no point in changing or acceleration of throttling temperature. coolers speed can be changed in NoteBook FanControl (NBFC).
didn't test other games yet, but I think in less dynamic games the growth will be even more noticeable.

managed to remove throttling temperature of the CPU as well. but it gave the opposite effect - the GPU gained its temperature again. so this function is of no use for me

Are you change/mod/unlock the bios or vbios? if yes pls send me the bios pls
using Nvidia Inspector not work on my G501, still locking the temp at 74 degrees, thx

You can't just flash a different Bios, except the Official Asus ones or a backup made from one pre-installed, since you have laptop dependent info's saved within like Win keys etc... One thing you can do, rather tricky... Make a backup of your current Bios and exchange your vBios with a unlocked one from the same laptop model. I'll start ASAP to answer all PM's

Thank you Compwxr for unlocked/modding my bios, really appreciate it! 🙂
Here is ther result of using Nvidia Inspector, now i can slide the temperature the default is 74 degrees but now i change it to 87 degrees 😄

Less lag when playing GTA 5 high setting 1080, even it reach 87 degrees the lag not noticable like before 54-60 fps (i think the clock not decrease too much :D)

60290

But the HwMonitor show the maximum temp at 87 degrees too 😄

60291\

So, even you slide the max limit gpu temp to 90+, your gpu will reach that. Be careful and be wisely! 😄

Thank you kaps26 for sending me NoteBook Fan Control Apps for adjusting speed of fan, really appreciate it 🙂
Here is the result!

60292

When gaming i set it to maximum speed, more cool temp huh 😄

(SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH) XD

Could you send the bios to me so that i can fix the same problem I have?

Hi can you share the unlocked/modding bios or anything you have done to solve the GPU throttle problem with our G501jw, thanks 😄

Hi compwxr , could you share how you modded the bios because I literally cannot take how slow my overwatch is running right now , 40fps even on the lowest setting and resolution . Thank you , any help would be much appreciated !

Message me on discord if it's more convenient for you , ⎛⎝Weeeee⎠⎞ #3667

Can someone help me T_T

Hello there, I've been modding a G551JW vBios for Public Release, soon it will be posted with guides to install. Next model will be G501JW
