Just got my G501 notebook and I am having issues with the Windows 10 upgrade.
Notebook restarts to the usual boot menu skipping the Windows 10 upgrade interface and boots Windows 8.1.
Need help.
Here's a screenshot of the error code.

Don't update it, return it.

Found the solution. Apparently I got to remove my HDD and let Windows 10 update to the SDD.
I'm running Windows 10 now, it's amazing.

I'm assuming the SSD was the original drive that came with the OS? Most of the newer laptops have SecureBoot with the BIOS saved to the original hard drive and BIOS so you need to upgrade to the OS to the same hardware first then afterwards when you reinstall Windows 10, you don't even need to put in the key and it will automatically activate.

I have the exact same problem. Mine came with an HDD originally and then I installed an M.2 SSD (cloned my original OS partition). Now, it won't upgrade to Win10 and I see the same solution online, to remove the HDD while it's upgrading. Kind of a hassle considering it's a bit hard to open the bottom panel. Any other workarounds to this?

So far there is only one working solution. I would suggest you to visit your nearest ASUS service center and request them removing your HDD. Make sure you bring your Media Creation tool and upgrade your Windows once they remove your HDD.
