G46VW Recovery Media Help

Hey fellow gamers, so I would really appreciate any help I could get with my problem. A year or so ago when I first got my g46vw I decided to remove Windows 8 and install Windows 7. Everything was fine and dandy until I realized that in the process of doing so I deleted the recovery partition. That being said I didn't really care too much until recently. I've installed Windows 8 manually again with all the drivers from the Asus support site, but it just doesn't feel the same. I've looked around the support site/e-store and there doesn't seem to be any recovery media for the G46VW for sale. I was wondering if there were any alternative methods to helping me. I'd like to recovery my Gaming Notebook back to Factory/Out of the box settings with the original recovery Media. Thanks you guys for any help.

Yes you would have had to create the recovery media with Asus Backtracker before you deleted you recovery partition. No you are left with Clean installing windows 8.1 Core. You will get the ISO or create your recovery media from here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media. As Clint stated, the only way to do what you're asking is to use asus backtracker on a g46vw with the factory partitions still intact. I don't know why you would want to do this though.

The factory partition has a lot of bloat in it from plain jane windows 8. When you update to windows 8.1 everything has to be in line or the update will fail. Installing 8.1 from scratch is a better choice if you ask me.

I have a factory recovery drive backed up from an asus x501a, I doubt it would do you much good but i'm sure it's the exact same thing as what the recovery on the G46VW is. If you want it I can probably upload it for you (it's 6.18gb).

Btw i'm on my G46VW that I bought back from the dead, windows 8.1 with all the correct drivers and utilities makes it work perfectly. I don't see what the difference would be.

I'll give 8.1 a try and see how it goes. I assume you used all the drivers from the Asus Support site? Thanks for the reply CR4N1.

Make sure you install the drivers under windows 8, there are some listed under 8.1 but the main ones are under windows 8. Also change your windows update settings to check for updates but choose what you want to install or windows will have a hay-day installing "updated drivers" that have bugs.

Also install the driver for the gtx 660m from nvidia after installing the video driver for the intel integrated video.

You should also check out classic shell if you don't like the windows 8 start screen and want your start menu back.

Ah!!! I'm so sorry haha C4RN1*. Thanks again for all the help. I do have one more question. Under the (other) section for the driver dowload page, there are 2 drivers I don't quite know if i need or not: intel rapid storage technology & intel management engine interface. Any clue if I need them?

Yes you need them, but Windows will probably grab the drivers for them when you check for updates. They will be in the "optional" section. If you don't install them you will see "unknown device" in your device manager.

IRST will optimize your computer hardware to work the fastest it can. It changes support for many technologies integrated in the chipset.

IMEI is more for remote support, but it is necessary since it can tie in with other integrated features.
