G46VW and G55VW msata slot

heya,

i have been trying to google, but with no luck,

is the msata slot, on the G46VW and the G55VW, sata2 or sata3?

Msata is msata, its a different type of connector and Sata2 or Sata3 drives can't be connected to it. I think that in terms of speed the Msata is the same as sata2

i think it depends on what sort of sata controller it connects to, hopefully since its a 3rd gen i5/i7 rog machine, it will be connnecting to a sata3 controller

for g55, it's a sata 3. i am using it. i believe the one in g46vw is also a sata 3.

Thanks. Most everything is SATA III these days. Maybe the DVD drive isn't (on the G55), but everything else will be.
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

you are correct @Zygo 🙂 the dvd drive is a sata 2. ivy bridge laptops like g55 and g46 has 2 sata 3 (that's the max number of sata 3 ports for the hm77 chipset). (hm87 has 4 max)

Same is true for the (modified) Sandy Bridge chipsets, which have SATA channels 0 and 1 as SATA III, the rest as SATA II.
