G-SYNC Upgrade on ROG G751JY/JT Laptops Now Available!

Bahz
Level 13
UPDATE 8 (June 6, 2016)
I received internal update that the i7-4720HQ motherboards for G751JY models have arrived to our warehouse hub in China and each country should now be able to place order for the parts. The i7-4720HQ motherboards for G751JT models will be arriving soon.

UPDATE 7 (May 13, 2016)
I have confirmed that the i7-4720HQ motherboards for G751JT models will be available by July 1, 2016 and the motherboards for G751JY models will be available by July 8, 2016. Please contact local customer service to be put on the waiting list and our service team will contact you once the parts are in stock. Please note that all dates listed are approximate dates so they could be available a little earlier or a little later.

UPDATE 6 (Apr 13, 2016)
After further discussion, it's confirmed that there's a shortage of i7-4710HQ and i7-4720HQ CPUs. The i7-4750HQ CPUs are in stock and all current G751 G-SYNC models selling on the market do indeed come with i7-4750HQ. The actual performance between i7-4710HQ, i7-4720HQ and i7-4750HQ is very minimal, this is based on actual real application benchmark test results. The user shouldn't notice any major difference during gameplay between the 3 CPUs.

We're going offer the i7-4750HQ for those who want to have the G-SYNC upgrade done now, but for those who prefer to wait for the i7-4710HQ/i7-4720HQ motherboards to come back in stock, we'll have our service team contact you again when they're back in stock. Please note at this moment in time there's no ETA on when the i7-4710HQ/4720HQ models will be back in stock. For other users who have the versions with i7-4860HQ or i7-4870HQ, these two model motherboards are also currently out of stock and we'll also have our service team contact you once they're back in stock.

A memo will sent to all regions to notify them of this update and to have them make sure that all customers are clearly notified that in order to continue with the upgrade now, they'll need to give consent that they accept the i7-4750HQ CPU version as replacement.

UPDATE 5 (Apr 12, 2016)
I received an internal update that isn't 100% confirmed but due to the scarcity of i7-4710HQ and i7-4720HQ CPUs, in order for us to reduce the lead time for the motherboards, we'll be replacing the motherboards with i7-4750HQ instead. I'm informed that the process is already underway and with this change we expect to cut down the lead time significantly.

UPDATE 4 (Mar 11, 2016)
I've been updated that we'll be extending the deadline of this program to July 31st, 2016.

UPDATE 3 (Mar 9, 2016)
I have confirmed that the reason why users have received back a laptop without the motherboard changed is because the motherboard parts were out of stock. Since the service center in Czech Republic have the technical capability to perform the rework on the motherboard, they decided to go ahead and perform the rework on the same motherboard to reduce the lead time for the upgrade process. Not all countries have the technical capability to do this, so for countries where the service centers don’t have the technical capability to perform the rework, they need to order the motherboards that are pre-modified. The entire process is “NOT” just a BIOS update and extra components are needed to be changed on the motherboard. So it will be normal to hear some users confirm that their motherboard was changed on their laptop and some that will confirm that they received back a laptop where the motherboard was not changed.

UPDATE 2 (Feb 2, 2016)
I'm sorry for the late response as I just came back from my vacation (Chinese/Lunar New Year). During this time of course it wouldn't be sane to be working as this is equivalent to Chirstmas for western countries.

I do apologize how this has been a very confusing process for a lot of you. Some countries are already aware of the program and have been trying to contact HQ for more details but of course the CNY break came at a bad time where finally the news started spreading around to all the regions but no one was there to answer all the details.

The program was prepared months in advance, so why the news hasn't properly reached all the regions is really mind boggling for me as well. We're working hard to communicate all the details with all the local countries at this time. We'll probably be extending the program duration due to these delays. Once again I'm sorry for all the confusion and inconvenience caused and we'll be working as quickly as possible to get everything cleared up as soon as possible.

UPDATE:
On behalf of ASUS and ROG I would like apologize for all the confusion caused. I can guarantee to all of you that this upgrade program is indeed legitimate. A program of this magnitude which didn't exclude any countries to begin with has its difficulties because to my knowledge we've never done anything like this before. As some of you mentioned I'm simply a messenger and I was told that all regions were notified of this program and to post it up, however after the first day we found out that this wasn't the case. We originally delayed the announcement by another week so we can notify all the service teams for all regions, but in the end we realized this still wasn't sufficient. We are working hard to communicate and make sure all our customer service teams and call centers around the globe are fully aware of this program, and during this time we ask that you please be patient with us and please try again in one week. If after one week and you are still getting a response that this program doesn't exist, please send me a PM and I will personally handle it and have one of our customer service representatives contact you. We apologize for the all inconveniences caused and thank you for your understanding.

For any existing owners of ROG G751JY/JT laptops (without G-SYNC) who are excited about the new G-SYNC feature, and are wondering if your laptop can be upgraded, ASUS ROG is making it possible! We are excited to offer you the G-SYNC upgrade for the low cost of only US$99 (cost does not include shipping and may vary slightly based on your region). The G-SYNC upgrade offer begins on February 1, 2016 and will end on May 1, 2016.

A hardware, firmware and software retrofit are necessary for your laptop to support G-SYNC. If you are interested in the retrofit service, please vote in the poll and contact our customer support with the following information and our local teams will be in touch (in order for your laptop to be sent in):

1. Your name
2. Country of residence
3. Your email address

fyi. Sorry for the delay and things are going very slowly for the U.S. upgrades right now for various reasons, but you can see in post #1242 DocX36 was able to get this done, so the upgrades have started here.

@Jon G, we have received the G751JY i7-4720HQ motherboards and hopefully you will be hearing from customer service fairly soon about sending in your unit for the upgrade.

@vempatyappu, I still see you on the waiting list, but we're trying to contact customers in the order we received the requests and there are still some customers we need to contact before you, so it will be a bit longer.

Thanks.

I bought my G751JT end of June and was sad to not have G-Sync. Luckily the upgrade program and this thread here exists. Customer support was responsive, friendly and helpful. Although I'm located in Germany, they charged me the 2% higher Dutch tax. Including shipping, I paid €113,74 (roughly $127,-) up front, got my RMA and sent the laptop to a German Address ( "Let Me Repair") yesterday. I will report the outcome, when I get it back.

UPDATE: After 8 days, I got my laptop back. I now have G-Sync option in NVIDIA driver and due to the newer chipset additional DSR (dynamic super resolution). There were no noticeable changes to my OS/installation and no downsides (eg higher temperatures, dead pixels,...), visible marks or HW downgrades. At first, I though the fans are louder but they were just rotating faster due to DSR (of course taking more GPU power) which is optional.

Summary: The upgrade went as promised without any problems. I would only criticise the slightly higher costs than announced and wrong countries tax. Still happy, though. Thank you!

Any idea how long until more g751jt boards come in? I got my rma in before the deadline (the 28th) but still haven't heard anything else aside from the confirmation.

Edit: well figured the next day I'd get the email saying it's ready to send in lol

Thank you everyone for all the kind words and all those who took the time to share their experience afterwards. For those who are still in line waiting for their laptop to be upgraded, I'm very sorry about the inconvenience and I hope you get your laptop back soon. This program may not have been a smashing success but we did what we set out to do which was to help our customers get what they wanted. This program was made possible due to the power of the ROG community and for sure your voice was heard and although it took a lot effort to get the company to take notice but once they did it was something the company was very willing to do for their loyal customers. This was a very costly program but in the end all that mattered is that we have a lot of happy customers that can now enjoy the unlocked potential of their G751.

Bahz,

Are you saying it's over? I have been waiting to hear back from ASUS Megan Nesmith about questions I have inquired about. I have already sent my laptop in once and received it back month later without repair, and I did not wish to send it back without hearing about the status of the CPUs that I was told would be in stock soon. I'm glad there have been many people who have been able to have their laptops upgraded with G-SYNC. I on the other hand, have not been so forunate, I must be on my third or fourth RMA# now. I would like to PM you Bahz as you seem to be the only person that knows what is going on at ASUS.

Currently there's a waiting list for the US, anyone that contacted our support team before July 31 is eligible for the upgrade. They're fulfilling the request based on the order the requests were received. Please note that although we were able to finally get stock from our CPU supplier, the quantities they're able to fill for each shipment is no where near the actual number of people who are still waiting for this upgrade. So we're getting shipments of CPUs every few weeks so unfortunately there will be some more delays before we can complete all the pending upgrade requests.

Please PM me your RMA# and CaseID and I'll follow up on this case for you.

Update as of 10/11/16

I paid the G751JY i7-4720HQ G-sync upgrade $109 US invoice 8/25/16. I over night shipped my notebook in to ASUS US Service Center
in Milpitas, CA on 9/26/16 for the upgrade b/c that's how long it took for ASUS US Service to confirm the replacement G751JY i7-4720HQ G-Sync
mainboard was supposedly there & reserved for my upgrade. However, after 15 days at ASUS US Service Center as of 10/11/16,
ASUS US Check Repair Status still lists my notebook as
- Product repair in progress ever since my notebook arrived 15 days earlier on 9/27/16 with no progress what so ever.
I followed all RMA instructions prior to shipping my perfectly running G751JY notebook in to the ASUS US Service Center such as
removing all non factory installed upgrades returning it to its original factory hardware configuration, removed OS password, etc.
On 10/7/16 I called ASUS US notebook phone support and was informed that despite my notebook being listed on ASUS Check Repair Status
as - product repair in progress since it arrived on 9/27/16 that the ASUS US Service Center hadn't actually began my units upgrade until 10/5/16 ?
ASUS US notebook phone support could not provide any additional information on why my notebook upgrade is taking so long or when it
will be completed.
This is the second time I've shipped my G751JY in to the ASUS US Service Center for this G751JY G-sync upgrade and so far the only thing
I've gotten out of this G751JY G-sync upgrade is wasting $290 US to over night ship my unit there twice, where its sat at the Service Center
33 days the first time I'd sent it in for this upgrade that didn't happen due to no G751JY G-sync replacement parts
(unit was returned as is after the 33 days) & now it sits a second time 15 days so far & counting! The only difference so far between
my two G751JY G-sync upgrade service attempts is that the first time I'd sent my notebook in ASUS US Check Repair Status listed my RMA
as WB1 - waiting for replacement parts the entire 33 days before it was finally return shipped as it had been sent in verses this 2nd
time that it lists my RMA as - product repair in progress.
I've contacted @Bahz & @cl-Albert through out this entire process via PM and they've both been extremely helpful. @cl-Albert is looking into
why ASUS US Service Center seems to be having a difficult time completing the upgrade on my unit this 2nd time and will contact me
as soon as he finds out what is causing this delay! Hopefully I'll get my notebook back soon with the G751JY i7-4720HQ G-sync upgrade
or else I'll have gone 33 days w/o notebook 1st failed attempt & 15 days & counting w/o notebook this second time & only thing I'll
have received is being out $290 US wasted on over night shipping to the ASUS US Service Center twice for nothing!

also intervened again on my behalf with this G751JY i7-4720HQ G-sync upgrade from his location and states he is contacting
ASUS US Service a second time to ensure my RMA upgrade is expedited, completed & returned soon.
@Bahz & @cl-Albert I thank you both again for all your help with my RMA G751JY i7-4720HQ G-sync upgrade I only wish all your efforts
were actually having an effect on getting my unit upgraded & returned, but so far it doesn't appear so? My fingers are crossed.
Hopefully, despite this upgrade taking an excessive amount of time to complete this 2nd time I'll get my notebook back with the

Will update in a few days and hope I have better info for this thread on my ASUS US G751JY i7-4720HQ G-sync upgrade experience!
For all G751JY/JT notebook owners still waiting to receive RMA & invoice to send in your awesome notebooks for this G-sync upgrade that may be
wondering what its going to be like w/o your notebook while its at the ASUS US Service Center, if your lucky you'll get it back w/ upgrade on first try
in 8 business days like vempatyappu. If your unlucky like I've been, you'll be w/o your notebook for up to 4 weeks and I can assure
you it's not a pleasant experience! I live in the same general area (Delaware)
as vempatyappu (New Jersey), our notebooks arrived at ASUS US Service Center w/in 1 day of each other for the upgrades
and his notebook G751JT G-sync upgrade got expedited & returned on 8th business day while mine is taking much longer once
again.

I took my laptop in Monday for the g-sync upgrade. They told me 3 days to do the job. I paid yesterday $150 so I hope the upgrade is done.
Im going to Asus Toronto today to see if they are done.
Wish me good luck.
