Get the A1 at Amazon.com. It's going for $1499.

The only difference I can tell between A1 and A2 id that the A2 has 16GB RAM and the A1 has 12GB. you could do that upgrade for $29 yourself.

ALSO, according to CDW the A2 is discontinued . . .
Read the User's Manual for more info. 😄

on the fb asus site I was strongly suggested by others to go with the a2 not the a1 so thank you very much for the info.

can you explain to me the diffrences between the DH & TH
I don't know if I come off completly stupid asking all these questions or..... But I've been reading and trying to learn what I can with many diffrent stories depending on sites but really want to feel i'm making the right choices when i finally find a site and hit buy.

As JR said, I think all those model numbers are supposed to confuse you! Asus has the most obtuse model naming "system" I've ever seen.

That said, my answer to one of your original questions also addresses this one. I recommend buying this laptop through Amazon. Unfortunately, people do get units with hardware issues, so in case you're so unlucky, you really want a seller with a generous return policy. Amazon gives you 30 days to try the computer and return it for any reason.

Amazon sells many of the various model configurations. If you scroll down on their product pages to the "What's in the box" and "Specifications" sections, you see a detailed list of their hardware specs, so you can easily compare them.
4426 (Example product spec listing on Amazon)
Even though there seems to be lots of models, there are really only about five basic hardware differences, and all these model configurations are just different combinations of these:

  • Display option: 3D or non-3D (most models are 1920x1200; a few base models have a 1600x900 display)
  • Processor speed: 2.0GHz or 2.2GHz
  • Optical Drive: DVD/CD combo, DVD/CD/BD combo, or BD Burner
  • RAM: 8Gb, 12Gb, or 16Gb
  • Hard Drives: there are a variety of hard drive combinations, the differences being one or two drives, size(s) of drive, and sometimes the speed (most are 7200rpm drives, some base models have a single 5400rpm drive)

Thank you that list is great. I know the basics but it's all the little things

this is one on e-bay that I saw http://www.ebay.com/itm/290625498367?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649

I'm going to go check out amazon again right now

I wish I would of just opened an account on here right away instead I tryed FB for a few weeks now and got almost no responses so thanks so very much

If I were to rebuy mine again, I would have gotten 3D.

Glad you found it helpful. 🙂 One way to help narrow your focus is to go through that list and decide on your preference in each category. Then it's just a matter of finding the configuration that best matches your list. (Both RAM and hard drives are very easily changed later, if you want, so don't let those be a deal-breaker.)

A couple thoughts: (1) That G74SX-A1 listing on eBay is WAAAAY overpriced, and (2) I would be very reluctant to buy a G74SX on eBay. As I mentioned, I highly recommend you buy your G74SX from a seller that will take back the laptop without question, should you have any problems with it. I've had to return two of these, so I can't emphasize enough how important that is.
