[FIXED] G75VX - Two Finger Drag - Touchpad Issues. Please Help?

Hey there Asusites,

My fiance and I just purchased a clearance g75-vx from Best Buy, and our return window is rapidly closing. My weirdo fiance, loves to play games on her touchpad, shooters, rpgs, you name it. All that aside, we are having an issue with the touchpad on this machine.

I will say, the first thing I did was install a samsung 840 pro and load windows 7. I followed a few of the VERY comprehensive guides found here and got this thing running like a peach. The problem with the touchpad is easiest described with three scenarios that I am going to try to describe as simple as possible. I have also included a screenshot of my synaptics touchpad settings below. (keep in mind I have ALL the gestures turned off, we only want this thing to operate as a point and move device).

Scenario 1:
You left click and hold. You drag one-two-three-even four fingers around the touchpad and it works fine. You can highlight text, drag something around, whatever. GREAT!

Scenario 2:
You right click and hold. You drag one-two-three-even four fingers around the touchpad and it works fine. You can open menus, move around. But only if you keep the right mouse button held. Now here lies the problem:

Scenario 3:
Without any buttons being held down, you can move around the pad with one finger. But the SECOND it sees a second finger, it stops moving alltogether. This is a HUGE issue.

The problem arises when she is playing a shooter, for example. She is running around, turning a corner, but OOPS, she accidently brushed the touchpad with a second finger and now she is dead in the water. Not to mention it kills your aim. She often uses two fingers on her previous laptops to steady her aim.

((Please keep in mind, we dont want scrolling, zooming, tapping, fracking, scooping, zooping, or any of that crap. Simple touch and go.))

Thanks for any help you all can provide. I have around two days and I am forced to return this otherwise beautiful laptop.

I also wanted to add. If you were to completely uninstall the synaptics driver (i've used the Asus one and the generic one) this works completely fine. You can move the cursor around no matter how many fingers are on the pad. The only problem with this is that Tap to Click is auto-enabled by the windows default driver.

Does anyone know of a way to disable tap-to-click WITHOUT a driver installed? Is there a particular place in the registry where you can see the windows default touchpad keys?

I'm doing some diggng while I wait for a greater mind to see this post.

you want to disable touchpad? press Fn+F9 or what do you mean your problem.

I would recommend buying a good gaming mouse!
(For keyboard, and mouse gaming)
This would solve many problems in gaming, plus be a lot more accurate!


PS:Or you can go with a XBox 360 game controller.

Believe me I totally agree with you, however, it is my fiance's laptop and she insists on using a touchpad. She claims she has learned on a touchpad, played professionally on a touchpad, and won't go back to mouse. But I digress.

This just seems like a fundamental feature a touchpad should have. I'm not sure why, if you are using a touchpad and a second finger touches the pad, it just stops. I cannot believe the device is not smart enough to realize it is a second finger and continue tracking with the first.

The bizarre thing is that it works fine without a driver installed (which is proof it is a driver issue).

As for Pitchers response, I have a hard time believing you even read my post. I clearly said in the first paragraph that "loves to play games on her touchpad" so why would I want to disable it? Anyway, I'm holding out for a few more days of tinkering.

So I see, you have already tried to disable multifinger gestures in setting.
I get the same results as you! (just tested it)
One finger works just fine, but if two hit the touchpad you are dead in your tracks! (Pun intended)

I second this GottiBoi55, mine is the same. I had never tried this before reading this thread though. I do use my track pad primary as I don't have room for a mouse where I use it. the 2 finger works as scroll which is a plus for me now that I know this.

The second possibility, that could potentially fix my problem, would be to find a way to disable tap-to-click without any synaptics driver installed. Because the default window touchpad driver allows multi-finger while moving the cursor. But it by default keeps tap-to-click on. And i cant seem to find a registry key that can control that. Maybe i need to look into what a custom driver would entail.

Let me know if you have any ideas.

I have fixed my problem! And incase there are other souls out there with the same issue I would like to pass along the fix.

First off, you need to ditch your synaptics driver as well the asus touchpad stuff (keep the ATK package). Go to control panel -> Add remove programs, and uninstall the synaptics driver, as well as any asus touchpad programs you have installed.

Restart your computer (crucial).

Visit this site, http://www.mydigitallife.info/enable-multi-touch-gesture-finger-scroll-momentum-and-chiralmotion-on-... and read through it. Download the second download link (for x64 machines). After you unzip the file run the setup file, restart after installation, and voila.

After revisting the synaptics settings panel, you will find you can still enable and disable all the previously available features, but it also includes functionality for multiple finger tracking. Who knew this ancient modded driver could fix it all!
