My laptop came with a 256 BG SSD + 1 TB HDD out of the box
256 GB split into 2 here
C: 50 GB (for Windows and my programs)
😧 (the rest of the space left on the SSD for Games)
E: 1 whole partition for the HDD (I keep my videos, music, docs, pics, and other files that don't need a fast spinning rate to perform)
if I were you, I would go with at least a 960 GB SSD these days to be future proof or if you can't afford it, at least a 256 512 GB SSD
Keep the C: partition always to the min. required, for example, after I installed all my apps including Adobe photoshop CS6 and Office 2010 and all the other apps, I still have 22 GB free on my C: partition.
Thanks to deleting all the downloaded windows updates temp files (around 700 MB) because after they are installed, Windows forgets to delete the installers from the temp folder (C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download)
I also minimize my page filr to 1024 MB Min / 1024 Max since I have 16 GB RAM (I used to disable it for 2 years also never ran into a problem)
I also disable hibernation so that saves me a LOT of space
