Does the G75vw 180w Power Brick work on the G73's?

Im currently cutting of some plastic on my G73sw-3DE...So I can fit the new GTX 680m I got...I was going to get a G75vw to put it in but ASUS said its technicaly impossible for the G75 to use standard MXM cards, it wont even recognize it...The G73's however while usus ASUS own version of MXM card will still recognize standard MXM cards but I will void warranty cause it means I have to modify the Chassis and little wok on the Heatsink.

Yes, it seems that the G73 was their evidence that people wanted to upgrade and from there on they've changed the GPU shape and connection so as not to be able to upgrade. We all wander why they do that, if they just make it so you have to buy a new notebook it does not make much of a sense, they can begin to make standard MXM notebooks and sell upgrade kits as all other sellers do... That would just be incredible.

I heard that they kind of like to do their custom PCBs and all that sort of things but still, can make at least a special ASUS connection and sell upgrade kits.

ASUS want control over their PCB so they can drasticaly change the Chassis is they want too...so they wont look like Sager or Alienware bulky laptops...

That's something I really like about Asus notebooks, they are thin and always have sharp designs. Sagers are just a black block and Alienwares are not my type. G75 even got slimmer than G74.

Yeah I know what you mean...but its a trade off too...they sacrifice customizablity...I kinda wanna keep the laptop for 5 years and still be able to play high end games...dont want to spend $1500 every 2 years to play games at max setting...usually for games a sinple GPU upgrade does the trick...the G73 isnt as slim as the G75 but its definetly slimmer than the G74...but because of thd G73 size it allows me to upgrade my GPU...Im almost there...taking my time, dont want to do a sloppy job with this (its still $500 spent) hehe...

Someone is going to try the upgrade in here, http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/660789-asus-g75-680m-upgrade.html. But still waiting for him to get the parts and the G75.

Hello. It was long time since last update jorlanm. Did you ever finish your mod? Can you confirm that 680m works in g73sw?

There has been a complete abandonment on the project, at least on the forum. There is a chance that this person has tried to upgrade and has not posted his results but as what it seems, the thread has been forgotten.

I understand. My thoughts are if he did sucessfully upgraded then he would 100% post results here. As he did not come with any updates and its gone fair amount of time that leads me to believe that he countered some obstacle on road :). And I just checked OP and hes still active here, he did respond to one other thread just ten days ago. I hope he will come and finally put closure on this thread.
