Hmm thats a cool idea. But i have no clue on how you would get a dock where you can access the laptop without opening the lid. It would just stay in sleep mode lol..

The farthest ive gone is setting my G75 up with external wireless mouse+keyboard and plugging it into my 40inch HDTV 🙂 Looks great and works like a full media setup

That's why I've created this thread 🙂 Some HP dock stations has power button that allow turn on\off notebook from "outside".

I know what he is asking, and there is none for the G-series. It takes a special hook-up to do this, because it needs to be a switch in parallel with the NB power switch. You can get USB docking stations that allow for one-plug hook-ups on peripherals (including displays), but it won't work for ACPI events, unfortunately.

Thank you, could you please give me advice which dock station is the most suitable ? I've found next station by asus - "USB3.0_HZ-1", as I understand it connects through usb3.0, is this enough for performance ? Because I'd like to connect display, ethernet, keyboard & mouse.

Should be fine, though gaming on a USB monitor is probably going to be frustrating. USB monitors are best for more static tasks like typing and such.

I have tried usb2 and usb3 docks with monitor connections and sadly, even if usb3 is a lot better, its still horrible for gaming use, watching videos however is now much more bearable with usb3.

In the future when Thunderbolt docks arrive, things will change dramatically..

Those will be good, because they are PCIe links, rather than USB. Also, when those arrive, we will get external notebook GPUs, which will be even better...

Anyway, the USB graphics cards aren't 3D accelerated, so games are going to be unbearably slow.

Don't worry, You can have a external monitor, with having the system on, while the lid is closed! 🙂

First go to the the battery icon, on the bottom right, and click it, and then click, more power options, then click on your selected plan,
and click "Change Plan settings," Then click change "Advanced Power Settings," Then scroll down and find "Power Buttons and lid" Press the + Sign, And Click "Lid close action", and on battery and plugged in change it to "Do nothing", And their we go, you can now close the lid and the laptop will still be power on, Their for you can use a external Monitor 🙂 Hope this helped!
