Do some of your USB ports act diff. than others?

the top left USB port acts strange, when I connect my Western Digital external USB 3.0 HDD, it keeps disconnecting/reconnecting every 10 seconds when copying data. But when I connect this external HDD to another port it works perfectly fine. Also the speed of the left top port is much lower and if I connect my USB wireless mouse to it, I sometimes get jerky movement.

I tried this both with the factory installed image and with a clean install of Windows 8.1 with he latest drivers and also on Windows 7 with the USB 3.0 Extensible Host driver installed and it's the same

My motherboard was recently change on this laptop by ASUS butI had the issue before and now it's still there

is this the Haswell Bug of stepping 1 or is something wrong with this laptop and what can be done by them to fix this do you think?

If I understand you correctly, you are talking about the USB 3.0 port on the LEFT SIDE, and YES, It happens to me as well, I have SEAGATE external, two of them. They both sometimes disconnect and then reconnect on their own. I have the G750JW ASUS laptop.

What model do you have?

I disabled the SLEEP function on everything. disable sleep under device manager, USB ROOT on all of them. disable sleep function under power options. I have this problem too. I was wondering if this is a known issue?

I have the G750JX (3D version)

so you have the exact same issue as I described. This laptop has been one buggy laptop since I bought it. Endless formats trying to get it work as it should but no luck. The USB port is messed up man

yeah I know, right now I am struggling to install my samsung evo pro SSD installed. its just those left USB ports work strangely with my seagate external drives. seagate tech support told me to update the usb chipset drivers??? and disable all usb sleep functions. will update later.

uhhh, Windows 8 doesn't allow you to install the Intel USB 3.0 Extensible host driver because it is biult into the OS

what a shame we are stuck with Windows 8 or 8.1's ancient USB 3.0 Driver

but the thing is, I get this problem even on Windows 7 with the latest Intel 3.0 USB Drivers so it's not about the drivers, it's a hardware defect

Issues with the upper left USB port looks like a common problem. Have it myself! But only for USB 3.0 drives.
Hopefully it's not hardware 😞

yeah same here I noticed it's only for USB 3.0 Devices :(. Definitely a hardware issue.

Have you contacted ASUS tech support? what did they say about it?

they said to bring the laptop. But I really can't live without my laptop for 1 day, last time when it stopped booting all of a sudden, it took them 7 days to replace the motherboard. what are they possible gonna do now? if many people here report the same problem....seems like it's a manufacturing defect

I have a ASUS motherboard (HTPC) that acts exactly the same way as the G750. And I believe that the problem started after some update from Microsoft so hopefully it is a driver issue! I've contacted support but whiteout answer yet.
