disk partitioning -- doesn't make sense

I'm looking at the partitions on my hard drive and they don't make any sense to me:
300M -- undefined
900M -- listed as a recovery partition
909.86 -- my useable disk space
350M -- listed as a recovery partition
20G!!! -- listed as a recovery partition

So are all these partitions required or is this for the various Windows 8 "recovery" modes?

Answer discovered! It is all the crap required on the hard drive to make the "Secure Boot" process work. Can you say 'sucks' ?
