Dim screen HELP!!!

Hey guys and gals,

I have an older G73, in fact one of the originals, and as of today the screen is really dark, it looks like the backlight or inverter has gone bad.

So here is what I need to know, Is the LED board the inverter? I can find those on ebay cheap, but I dont know if replacing the board will fix the issue.

If the LED board is not the actual inverter board, does this laptop actually have one? Because I cannot seem to find the Inverter, if thats the case will I need to replace the whole screen?

Thanks,

Sounds like the inverter died... have an old toshiba and the inverter went...It was located below the LCD, once the screen bezel was removed... I would check there....

Changing the screen on the G73 is not too difficult if you work slowly, carefully and follow this tutorial

I replaced mine, and I have an original G73jh too. That was about a year ago. It's been great ever since. The screen is about $100, and comes with the new inverter on the backside.

Good luck! 🙂

I can change the screen fairly easily thats not a problem, I had it out yesterday, the thing is I am not sure if the LED board is the inverter, or if the screen itself has the inverter built in as it should be a LED LCD screen.

I dont want to buy the LED board if I am going to have to replace the screen anyway. I am really trying to find out if the LED board is the Inverter board.

Well, I could be wrong about this, but my understanding was that the inverter board is built onto the back of the screen. Look at this pic:

The reason I had to change my screen was because I got the dreaded PSODs. That was fairly common on early G73jh with the Hannstar screen, which is what I had. Supposedly the bad Hannstar screens had defective inverters, which is the main reason I had to change my screen. The Hannstars are supposed to be good screens otherwise, and I have replaced my first screen with another new Hannstar.

Maybe you can get away with just replacing the board that is on the back of the screen. Let us know if you do, and it works! 😉

I'll be interested in knowing because I kept the old screen, and if all I need is the inverter board to fix it that would be great. Assuming the inverter board is cheap (like $25 or less)

Good luck!
