Is it possible to use external GPU with ROG G751?
Few months back My laptop display quit
Then the HDMi port stopped working.
Now *the windows cant detect NVidia Gtx960m. Can’t install the new driver and only VGA works.
Can I take risk and buy new motherboard from eBay.*
OR USE EXTERNAL GTX660 ?
A. "Few months back My laptop display quit" -> lol...thank you...just had to say it....although it's OK to have bad english, mine isn't perfect as well.
B. on a serious note: if your nvidia GPU was damaged in anyway, your internal LCD screen should stop receiving any images and you should not see a thing.
this is correct as well for any HDMI or VGA output from your G751JT or Y since the nvidia gpu is the only one conencted to these outputs on the G751JT ( the iGPU of intel is DISABLED at the HW level, so only the NVIDIA gpu is the one working on your laptop )
BUT if you have the G751JM - you do have the iGPU working togather with NVIDIA, since it does support 'Optimus', i.e auto switching between nvidia and intel GPUs.
IMHO I think your HW is fine and you have a DRIVER issue ( or even worst, some windows file structure issue that effects drivers ).
that 'atmelwindrvr' missing device in the screenshot - is 'Jungo connectivity', a "driver fixer" solution that I THINK is malware and the root cause of your issues.
so A-> uninstall that driver and any leftovers of 'Jungo connectivity' !
B-> use to use DDU to uninstall any nvidia driver remnants and others ( select uninstall all ) -> REBOOT ! -> then goto nvidia official site and download & nstall latest GEFORCE driver.
this should solve your issue, though if not, I would suggest a CLEAN WINDOWS installation.
if you want to be sure that the GPU is ok, you can always temporary boot to live-cd of linux (like ubuntu), to check if it works.
