Confused about 3D? A Guide to G series and VG series monitor compatibility and terms

X-ROG

3D Ready:

These are usually suffixed by -3D in the product code.

Your notebook has a 120Hz LCD and you can run 3D content right out the box. It should also come bundled with Nvidia 3D glasses in the box as well.

------------------------------------

3D Capable:

Due to their Nvidia graphics, all G55/G75 are 3D capable.

The GTX 660M, GTX 670M or GTX 670MX graphics card can output a 3D signal to a compatible monitor.

------------------------------------

How do I add Nvidia Stereoscopic 3D to my 3D Capable G series?

Firstly: We recommend you do NOT replace the LCD in your G series. It requires significant disassembly and with generate significant cosmetic damage. It will also require an emitter to be wired in.

You can add one of our VG series monitors which has an emitter built in and 3D Vision Kit in the box:

VG278H - 27" 120Hz (Replaced in March 2013 by the VG278HR)
VG236H - 24" 120Hz

With these models above, 3D works over HDMI and DisplayPort (and dual-link DVI)

-------------------------------------

These VG series below are compatible with 3D Vision, but do NOT have the required emitter embedded in the design and do not come bundled with 3D glasses. You can buy a Nvidia 3D Vision kit separately (USB emitter and glasses)

VG278HE with 144Hz + 2ms (compatible with NVIDIA 3D)
VG248QE with 144Hz + 1ms (compatible with NVIDIA 3D)

With these models above, 3D works ONLY over DisplayPort (and dual-link DVI)

I have an ASUS G75VW Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M\2GB. Which ones are better, the Wireless or Wired 3D Glasses? Im thinking about geting the Wired ones because I figured if its plugged in directly then it would give out better results. which one should I get?

There's no 3D sku w/660M

You won't be able to use native 3D on the screen, so neither glasses would work

Okay, and what about G75 VW RS72? Is it 3D ready or 3D capable?

The ONLY current G75 that is 3D ready is the G75VW-DS73-3D

the G75VW-RS72 is 3D capable

So if I have a 3D capable G55 and I would like to view videos on say YouTube would buying Nvidia glasses do the trick? or would I still need a 3D TV?

You would need to purchase a 3D ready TV/Monitor/Projector, a 3D glasses kit (if emitter not included) and glasses (if not included with 3D device)
