cheapest asus rog laptop for playing witcher 3 at reasonable (+medium) settings?

Hi guys

I am saving money to buy a laptop and I would very much like to be able to play Witcher 3 on it at acceptable settings. By acceptable settings I think I mean above medium settings (would prefer high settings, but you know). I do not know much about the proper fps and other computer talk. I just want the game to run smoothly and look good as well.

I have been trying to understand exactly what things to take into consideration when choosing a model but as I said, I am not exactly versed in the hardware thingies. I've seen videos on the web with people testing the Witcher game with various models of GTX, but is that all it takes? I can't just say 'It's got GTX960 so it will work', right? Is a 2.0 GHz processor a good processor for what I want? Should I look for a higher GTX or a higher GHz count? You see, I really don't know.

So I thought it would just be easier if I could find someone that can help me find the right type of gaming laptop that I need. That way I can see exactly how much money I should save.

I hope one of you can lend a hand, I'd be über grateful.

Thank you very much!

there is a 100 $ difference on this model between a 965m and the 970m! depending on your contry and where you buy it, you can even find it cheaper than this!

You would get a good CPU (4720) and you can always buy a SSD later on, and install it yourself! it will make a good gaming laptop with great cooling, a 17 inch G-SYNC overclockable panel to 100Hz, 16Go of RAM, 1 Tb HDD...

To me this laptop is the safest/smartest buy when on a budget.

thanks yet again. where i'm from (romania), this laptop doesn't exactly fall under 'on a budget'. however, you are right, it would be a better choice on the long run. i will not buy a new device anytime soon. i guess now i have to decide whether to wait another couple of months to be able to afford it or just get one of the cheaper models sooner. Most places don't even have G751 on stock here anymore, i suppose they don't sell as well. but thanks 🙂

It's easy; 960m gaming laptops are around 1000€ and move everything decently at medium sets.

970m gaming laptops are around >1500€ and move everything at high sets.

980m gaming laptops are around >2000€ and move every-maxed-freaking-thing

Obviously each configuration comes with a good processor that doesn't get the bottleneck role. That's why it's important the word "gaming" on the laptop. You'll find laptops with a 960m but a not-so-decent processor. Also the heat dissipation is way stronger on gaming laptops, which is important for the life of the CPU/GPU

I've been playing TW3 on my G751JT and can assure you that if you get a machine with a GTX970m you'll have no problems. It handles it beautifully at near-ultra settings. The ONLY setting that really impacts the frame rates is if you set NVidia Hairworks to be on all characters, so if you turn it off or set it so that it only affects Geralt himself it works just fine.

Get yourself a G751/G752 and you'll have a beast of a gaming rig that also miraculously manages to stay remarkably cool.

thanks, it looks great but it is not the cheapest

Actually this is a pretty good deal ASUS ROG GL552VW-DH71

Personally, I think you would regret going for the "cheapest" option you can find to play your current game choice.
Within a year I think you would be regretting your decision.
Personally I would save a little longer and aim higher, then you know that the next gen game will still run rather than then having to look again.

I know, you are right. It's not easy for me to save money, first of all cause my paycheck is not so phat. secondly cause... I lack the discipline. However I managed to get over myself and technically I should be able to buy a GL552VW (GTX960 4 GB, 16GB DDR4, 1TB + 128GB SSD) at the end of this month. And there are cheaper models out there that can play the game, so I kind of gave up the idea of getting the cheapest one.
All my life, the PCs/laptops that I had were always subpar and I never could play the games that I wanted, always just the low req ones. Now I sort of set TW3 as a reference point, thinking that if I can play this one, I can play others as well. I really like The Witcher and I have been dreaming of TW3 for a long time that postponing it for another 2-3 months (most probably) would feel like waiting for another whole year.
I'm this close, you know... and giving up right when I thought the waiting would be over feels like a major party pooping case to me.

However, I am considering the idea of saving more money cause I always find myself looking longingly at other models with higher specs and I think that I would regret not getting a better notebook. But at the same time, I am not a gamer gamer so I don’t know.

We’ll see.. 3 more months doesn't sound like much

Thanks for your message
