Buyers Guide / What to look for

Hi guys,
I`m thinking of purchasing the G750jx from another country so the option of RMA will be hard as hell. But I have the option to test the unit for couple of minutes, before I pay for it to the courier (the JX comes without an OS installed so it`s only in DOS) That`s why I`m starting this thread, so some of you could write down their opinions about what to check for faults, before paying. Here`s what I gathered until today from some threads in different forums, about knows issues:

1. Processor stuck at .77 Ghz while on battery power (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?35062-Processor-stuck-at-.77Ghz) . Is this only for the JW or also for the JX model ? BIOS update will fix this right ?

2. Screen flickering (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?35594-Is-screen-flickering-a-software-or-hardware-issue). Will I see that if I boot to DOS only or that can be seen only in windows ? Is there a proper fix for that ?

3. Video issue (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?35248-What-is-its-Issue-%28Video-Inside%29). For now just one person reported something like that.

4. Hissing sound when on headphones (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?35492-G750JX-cv038h-HEADSET-NOISE-and-HUMPS-ON-TOUCHPAD-and...). Does every owner have that after installing Maxx Audio?

5. Speakers crackling (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?35698-Speakers-Crackling-G750JW) Can anyone confirm its fixable with drivers?

6. Haswell BUG with the USB ports (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?34939-C2-stepping-laptops-without-USB-bug-ETA) I guess there isn`t any fix for this.

7. Screen Ghosting (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?35565-Asus-ROG-G750JX-RB71-Screen-Ghosting) Reported by 2 people.

So any advices will be greatly appreciated. And the main question still remains : what should I do for 15 mins in DOS when the courier comes with the G750, in order to test it for those problems.
Thanks in advance !

DOS? yeah, you won't be booting into DOS from Win8, you can use Command Prompt but isn't that as far as it goes nowadays? unless you're talking about using FreeDOS?

Yeah ... I meant that the notebook is coming with a pre installed FreeDOS only ... no Win 7 or 8 !

If it doesnt come with win 8 i seriously doubt its covered by ASUS rma to begin with.

To answer your questions:

1: doubtful, most likely no never.

2: I dont know, I havnt experianced any flickering myself (g750jx).

3: Thats a random rma issue I think, there has only been that one guy asking about it.

4: Seems so. Ill write up a more detailed separate post to explain everything ive learned about it so far. But at the moment a slight hiss even after youve installed the audio drivers correctly is the general concensus. Even on the most sensitive headphones youll only notice it on completely silent parts of songs. Like a hip hop/rap tune you wont notice it at all because theres always something making a sound. But go over to stuff like "my body is a cage" peter gabriel version where most of the song is silent youll hear it all the time. Otherwise the headphone out is really good, brings out details I never thought possible on an built in solution.

5: Most likely a hardware issue as there has only been that one user asking about it. Unless he describes the hiss so many hear as crackling, but noone else hears that on the speakers. Only on the headphone out. The speakers are simply wonderful with maxxaudio properly installed. no hiss or crackle here-

6: CBA reading your link but all my ports work as advertised. Write the actual problem or question you want answered without having me or anyone else having to research what your question is....

7: Yes there is some minimal ghosting that is amplified tenfold if you dont have the one frame buffer option active in the nvidia panel. Once thats off you have the most responsive laptop on the market atm. With MSI you would have lag because the gpu is overheating due to ****ty cooling desing. Clevo youd have a hairdryer being able to play the games exacly as good as the g750...but sounding like a hairdryer. G750 is next to silent even at max load.

hope it helps!

By any chance you know how can I stress test the CPU and GPU under FreeDOS or what exactly to look for in the screen ? Cause I wont be able to change drivers for 15 mins, neither install Windows etc ?
