Brand new Asus G752VL-BHI7N32 with display, speaker, weird sound issues

Hi everyone. I just purchased the G752VL-BHI7N32 from BestBuy on Saturday. I came home, charged it for a few hours and turned it on. everything was going real cool. Then I ran into a problem.

I worked on the laptop for a few hours, turned it off and went out for a little while. When I came back a few hours later, I turned on the laptop and the machine powered up, showed me the ROG splash image, then went black. but the laptop started up all the way. I could hit the caps key and see that light turn off and on, the num lock key, so on. so I held the power button down and restarted it that way, and the display came on after the 2nd boot up. so, I restored the laptop and took it back to bestbuy and swapped it out.

the second laptop did the same thing. after using it for a few hours, I turn it off, then wait...close the lid. after a little while I opened the lid and turned it on, same thing. ROG splash screen, then goes black and I cant see the desktop. so with the laptop on, I closed the lid and reopened it and the screen flashed and the desktop showed.

this is a problem I am not happy with. any one else duplicating this?

I REALLY want this laptop to work out.

another issue is the speakers. they are crackling when volume is turned up, and now I am hearing a HDD sputter or something. it has a weird sound coming from the keypad area or the front of the laptop. no idea what is causing it.

so a few issues going on here....

display not turning on when laptop is used for a few hours, and only way to get it to show is to either restart by holding power button down OR closing and opening the lid again.

speakers are not good at all. crackling sound. possible update available for drivers or are these speakers junk?

weird sound coming from mouse or HDD area, front of laptop. sounds like a sputter or a clicking.

I had the g751, but took that back with other issues...

again, I really want this laptop and ASUS brand systems, but I am not happy about this.

thanks for your help!

why experiencing this black out issue, do you have any external hard drives plugged in?

not at the time when the display started up dark.

I have a Logitech rolling ball mouse plugged in. that is it.

I can confirm this bug on G752VY too: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?84926-G752VY-Lid-opening-issue&p=589327#post589327

PoPeye, it sounds to me like what the root cause of these issues are windows updates. You need to configure windows update to NOT Install driver updates. Windows 10 thinks it knows what are the best drivers for your hardware and auto installs them. Causing issues similar to what you report

Once all windows update have run with out driver updates then you can manually update your drivers as needed from the Asus Support Downloads site. Do a little reading here you'll see which drivers have caused other users issues Don't update any of them until your sure exactly which one and why you are updating them.
Updating them one at a time rebooting between installs that way if you hit one your notebook doesn't like you can restore a Image you created before you started and update with incremental back ups as you go only takes a couple of minutes to roll back before that driver install.

Do yourself a huge favor, Return that machine and get a different one other than a Best Buy hack up. You can actually get better specs for less money. One thing they did is the 12GB memory just for starters, all others have 16GB minimum. Im sure if you dig deep enough you can find other differences too like the 5400 RPM HDD where all others have 7200. They offer a price match guarantee on this because you cant get the same machine anywhere else, they spec ordered however many to distribute in their stores.
Just a quick search shows the same PC with 16GB ram for $200 less at Newegg and $250 less on Amazon. If you have a costco membership you can get a G752VT with far better specs for $150 more and you get a 90 day return and 2 year warranty with 1 year of accident protection all included.
