Brand New Asus Costumer. Bought G752. What can I expect?

Hello everyone. I am a future 3D animator and I have dealt with 'crap' computers for majority of my life. The last computer that I bought I though was going to be good enough for what I needed it for (Maya 3D, gaming on something other than low specs, etc.) And sadly, I was wrong. By the time I realized that I had purchased what I thought was a 'good' computer, the return date was far too late, and my mother was not willing to buy another, obviously. So I had to wait a few years... and that wait is over.

Friday I purchased the Asus ROG G752 (VT if I recall, it is the one that costs $1800) and it will arrive Wednesday morning. I already looked at a few reviews here and there, but I wanted to know from people who have been exposed to Asus for X amount of years:

What type of flaws can I expect from this laptop? What is the typical lifespan of one that is thoroughly taken care of? What can I expect to 'die' after a certain amount of years that might need replacing?

Just trying to get a general sense on what I am up against. I am really REALLY excited for this laptop and the things it is capable of.

Laptop keyboards are typically removable modules, sometimes specific keys can be repaired, sometimes they cannot and the entire module needs replacement.

If the laptop is still under warranty then apply for an Asus service/RMA ticket, they will probably absorb time/labour costs but expect to pay some nominal charge for the replacement part.

If Asus doesn't accept the warranty (or it's expired/void) then take it apart and note the keyboard part number, google will find all sorts of vendors once the exact part number is known. It's not cheap but it's cheaper than replacing the entire laptop. Any laptop repair store can provide this service, but they probably need to take it apart before they can identify and order the replacement part, plus they'll add their own service costs.

I really am not going to send the entire model back because of a single key, because god knows what could happen if I try to get a replacement model. It could have more problems than this one, and this isnt really a problem, just a disappointing situation.

If I were you, I'd just return the laptop a few times until I get a decent one. Which is what I did, 2 times.

Or there is already another component in your laptop, waiting to fail. The fact that your key is broken doesn't decrease the likelihood of other things breaking.

It's a d$@M shame that you have to be "lucky" getting a brand new laptop and nothings wrong with it instead of expecting that nothing should be wrong with it.

Hard earned dollars spent, waiting for it to arrive then this? I'll be so pissed of if anything is wrong with the 2K laptop I just purchased.

Use stores where you can buy/return directly. Saves a lot of time. Sometimes you just need one glance at it to return it the next day. :cool:

I agree absolutely, I always buy local when possible because I want an actual person (who actually speaks my language) to deal with my problem, I completely avert all the costs and delays and "approval processes" and email runarounds and the please-hold-your-call-is-valuable-long-distance-phone-charge waiting game. Plus I hate having to explain all the details right from the beginning over and over again while being shuffled through different levels of bureaucratically-crippled customer support, customer accounts, and actual tech support.

And I get to enjoy Canadian Consumer Protection Laws - I can return any new item I've paid any tax on for any reason (or even for no reason at all beyond saying "I'm dissatisfied with the product") within 10-30 days and expect immediate full refund, no shipping fees, no restock fees, no penalties, no losses.

But a lot of international Asus customers just don't have these options. If they want Asus then they have to buy online from a foreign vendor.

I would take into consideration all of your opinions, however, I got this from Best Buy, and they do NOT sell this model in any of their stores. Online only. And with the holidays around the corner, God knows how long it would take to get back.

I fixed the keyboard popping off myself. I'm used to keys coming off because of my previous laptop, just has to do with what they are kept attached with.

I appreciate everyone's comments, but I am enjoying this computer far more than I should. Other than the keyboard problem, I would recommend this to anyone and anyone. It is worth the currency spent!
